“Lovely hotel brilliant location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

Lovely hotel with staff quietly attending to details, little things like a glass of water on arrival at reception. Both for breakfast and appetisers for dinner the chef made little "amuse-bouche" of whatever came to hand and one could take as many as wanted. The room was large with ours having a view over an inner garden. There was free reception internet use. We had a half board package which gave 3 main course choices. The hotel is on the main pedestrianised square, so is quiet. Wernigerode is a good centre for the steam railway to the Harz and south, or main-line to Goslar or eastwards. Good shopping for a little town.

Staff was very friendly, great rooms, actually it was biggest single room i have ever slept in- great! old city is amazing and when you are leavinh hotel you can find your self exactly in the centre of the town, on an old market with awsome historical town hall. Im thinking very seriosly about going there with my family. Best on a road!

“Lovely hotel in a lovely location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

Had three nights here as part of a tour around Germany by rail. It's a really good quality hotel, very clean and well maintained, in a great location in the square of a typically German town. The room was a good size, and bathroom lovely, with robes, slippers, nice toiletries etc. Very good value for money, and plenty of typically German restaurants and cafes round about. Plenty of things to do and good transport links. Breakfast room is nice, and a good range on offer. Bar is also a nice relaxing setting to end the day. Only downsides for us were lack of wi-fi and no kettle/ hot drink making facilities. The spa is very nice, but no swimming pool which is a shame.

“YOU DESERVE THE AWARDS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2011

First I would like to say congratulations on the awards you have received. You definately deserve them.
The location is great as you are part of the little township. The bottom floor of the hotel was just lovely. Everything had the finishing touches. I can imagine how nice and cosy it would be on a winters night with the fire going and the bar area filled with people enjoying themselves and their environment. Its not very often you can say a large area could get cosy, but I feel this could because of the way it has been furnished.
Our room was very nice, quite large, and very very clean. Our bed was pretty hard, but had to say we still had a good nights sleep.
Bathrooms were adequate size and also very clean. Couldn't fault that at all. It was also very well priced, and the breakfasts terrific.
Wernigerode is a lovely town, a hidden gem really. We definately will be back to this hotel, and the town.
Thought I would add the shops are very good also. Not many tourists, just lots of locals which is great.

“Just didn't want to leave!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2011

This hotel was a perfect base as we explored the area by narrow-gauge railway and bus (the latter using the free visitors' pass provided at check-in, encouraging us to travel well beyond Wernigerode with the locals). Our room to the rear was extremely comfortable, and quiet on evenings when the square was busy. The location can't be beaten...and nor can the quite superb breakfast buffet, where you are utterly spoilt for choice and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we wanted to sit outside when possible, and there are so many eateries within a stone's throw.
Wernigerode is just charming, and so are the surrounding towns, easily accessible by local bus. Outside the hotel, not much English is spoken, so you really need to know a few key phrases in German if you want to know what you're ordering or to ask for help planning your route on the railways. It's easily possible to do the entire Harz narrow gauge circuit in a day if you don't mind catching the early bus to Quedlinburg, and well worth the effort. And if you're a steam fanatic, travel to Wernigerode by mainline train...as you pull into the station there are bound to be at least a couple of steaming locos right next to the platform to swoon over!
