The Heliopark sits on the edge of Schluchsee - with great vistas across the lake. It's well located - whether you travel by car or train (there's a station only a few minutes' walk away, with regular trains to Freiburg that stop at Titisee and other picturesque towns along the way).

We used the hotel as a base for a walk around Schluchsee - for which it made a great start and finish point. If you're looking to get away from city life and fancy getting some fresh country air in your lungs, then I can wholeheartedly recommend a day spent wandering around Schluchsee - taking your time to enjoy both the scenery and/or some healthy German subsistence along the way!

Heliopark has clearly been recently refurbished, with new furniture, carpets and freshly painted walls. It feels a little basic in style, but it's really clean and well looked after. Our room was on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the lake. We had a separate lounge area, which was great for resting our legs at the end of our walk. Being relatively close to the main road, you do hear a little traffic, but this didn't affect our sleep. The bed was firm and the linen new - but you may want to ask for an additional pillow or two as they're pretty soft.

Breakfast was a straightforward affair, with a selection of fresh breads, cheeses, hams, etc. to accompany the standard selection of cereals. The waiting staff (like all of the staff) were attentive and friendly, and a dab hand at making a great morning cappuccino.

So, if you're in for a bit of the good life and want somewhere to base yourself to explore Schluchsee, then I'd recommend the Heliopark.

We stayed at this hotel for one night between Christmas and New Year 2009 as part of an Austria/Germany/Swiss driving holiday. Fantastic hotel out of town and we would have stayed longer if we had known. Rooms we had were very spacious with view over the lake. We had plenty of snow which made the whole event very romantic.
Restaurant was closed at that time of year (drinks and breakfast only). Buffet breakfast was great and the town of Schloss Am See is only 5 mins down the road (free train travel) where there are plenty of restaurants.
Would definitely recommend this hotel if you have a hire car. We spent a day driving around the Black Forest visiting Tribourg and Titesee with no problems.
Will go back on our next visit to Germany.

If you're looking for an "away from it all" holiday and enjoy outdoor pursuits, this is it! The Hubertus/Scloss am see/Heliopark Hotel (they're all the same place!) is idyllically situated on the edge of the lake with the (free) mountain railway nearby, which takes you to Lake Titisee or even Freiburg in an hour. Walking, sailing, rowing, cycling all on the doorstep. The annexe didn't have WiFi, but they happily moved us and even helped set our computer up for it. As in many continental hotels, there are no tea-making facilites in the room so take your own travel kettle.We'll definitely be going back!

My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights at Seehotel Hubertus, in room 12 which we thought was the best room due to the large private balcony overlooking the lake.
I strongly recommend this hotel to everybody, and if you don't need a place to stay overnight, at least visit for a beer or meal on the terrasse. The food is not gourmet but it is well prepared and very good value! We had 3 x breakfast buffet and 3 x dinner in the cozy restaurant with a great view and a lovely atmosphere.

The staff was very kind and helpful and can provide you with hiking maps and tips on what to do. The room was large and clean and the surroundings (lake, forests, hills etc.) are simply divine.

We didn't use the spa so I cannot write anything about that part...
