Firstly, I should say that the room itself (I was in 106) was excellent. Big bed, lots of room to move about, a minibar fridge with room for my own stuff, good hot shower, windows that really opened, etc. The gym was small but had a bike, treadmill, elliptical machine, etc. Also the Sauna was nice.
But the front desk staff and the shuttle bus service ruined it quickly. One young lady who was there in the evenings was an exception, but for the others I really got a lot of bad info, not sure if it was the language barrier or what. (But I would expect the staff of a large, airport branded international hotel to have a decent command of English!) The shuttle bus service is deplorable. I happened to arrive at the airport when the driver was having his tea break and rather than wait 2 hours, paid EUR 24.55 for a taxi. At weekends, the shuttle is via taxi and is once per hour only.
This hotel is not nearby the airport, it is at least 10km away. If you walk to the S-bahn station at Raunheim, it is 15 to 20 minutes. Then the train into the Hbf is another 15 minutes. From the hotel to the Domplatz, with trains ready when I was, took 55 minutes. Take that into consideration when you are comparing price and convenience.
The breakfast is EUR 18 per person, I skipped it and walked 5 minutes to the Toom Hypermarket at the end of the street. It is open from 08:00 until 22:00 Monday through Saturday and you can make yourself one huge sandwich for a few quid, they also have a cafe inside. There is a Chinese place nearby, but otherwise it is pizza and kebab houses in the town. Of course the hotel has a bistro but it is expensive (their more reasonable priced restaurant is not open every night!). Wifi is EUR 9 per 24-hours, this seems fairly standard for the area.
An alternate way to reach the hotel from the airport is bus line 72, towards Russelsheim and leave the bus in Rauheim, at Egerlander Strasse. The hotel is then less than 5 minutes walk, up the Mainzer Strasse, turn right at the lights, you will already see the hotel set back on your right, just follow the street around. This certainly beats the lengthy S-bahn hike with your luggage!
I am not sure if I will stay here again, it would have to be a fab price. It was just very disappointing with the whole shuttle and reception situation. Sorry I dd not take any photos, but the time I got there and checked in, I was in no mood to take any!!
