The Landhaus Averbeck is a (German/English) family run establishment in a very rural area, with a bistro (under expansion), children's play centre and two new family flats in adjacent buildings. The reception from the extended family (and dog) is very welcoming and in fluent English. Once you have got over the surprise of the front hall, with all its antlers, boar skins and stuffed birds, it is rather charmingly appointed with a mix of antique furniture and modern shower rooms (with hair driers and liquid soap but no tissues or shampoo). Rooms 2 and 6 are spacious suites at opposite ends of the first floor corridor, each with sitting rooms with sofa beds. 200+ TV channels in many languages including several English language news channels, but check the room layout if you want to watch TV in bed. Free wifi (unusual for Germany) but it may not stretch to your room and you may have to sit in the front hall to access it. Good and prompt laundry. Beds are firm and pillows very soft. Very fine breakfast at a time of the guests' choice, some meals in the evening which we did not have the chance to try (plus the Bistro next door). Handy for the adjacent NATO and British military bases and as an overspill from Hannover during its expos. If you have to be in this area, it is a good choice, especially with a family. I did not pay the bill myself, but checked the rates and they seemed very reasonable.
