“Cute as a button, neat as a pin.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2009

I was fortunate enough to visit the beautiful town of Quedlinburg in July 2009. During my week-long stay for both business and pleasure in this charming, UNESCO-listed city I stayed at the Precise Quedlinburg Stadtschloss. This hotel is very nice and is set in an old city castle so you are staying in the heart of town. The staff was very professional and very much in tune with guest needs. All the basic facilities are to a very good to excellent standard.

My room was large, airy and clean with very nice furniture and fittings. The bed was comfortable with good bed linen and comfortable pillows. The bathroom was well above expectations and I would rate this as easily to five star standard in terms of the bathroom size and the quality of the fittings. I was very comfortable in my room.

The breakfast buffet is also very good and is probably also above four star standard in some regards. Breakfast is served in a room with beautiful arched ceilings and big windows that let in the morning light. The service at breakfast was very good. The restaurant, the ‘Schloss Kuchen’, is reasonable value and prepares some very good dishes. I would strongly suggest trying some of the local style fare available in the three course menus which are the best value. The staff were happy to talk to with me about the menu and gave me little lessons on the local food culture. Like most of the locals around Quedlinburg the staff here have small town manners which can be charming.

After dinner you can have a drink at the lounge bar. Once again, the room, the service and the general ambience are right at the top of four star and maybe even five star.

The hotel has a spa that is open most of the time. The spa seemed to be clean and in good repair, it all seemed to be recently built.

Having read some of the older reviews for this hotel I suspect that things have changed under a new manager. I didn’t notice the problems listed in earlier reviews. This hotel is very clean and comfortable, very professional and very well run.

I am happy to recommend the Quedlinburger Stadtschloss to others.

My husband and I stayed in hotel Quedlinburger Stadschloss
the night of the 29th of October to the 30th October 2007.
It is a very nice hotel and the staff was wery helpful when we arrived.
We booked the room by telephone around 18:00 and at 19:00 called to ask if it was possible to eat in the restaurant on arrival at 21:00. we were told that would be fine.
We arrived in the Schlossküche, I asked for pork and vegetable (fitness meal)
At 3:00 in the night I woke up to be sick, I was consequently sick for 24 hours, today (second day) I still cannot eat without being sick.
The staff at the reception had been informed of this by my husband, but when I came to pay, they had not removed the price of the meal, nor had they removed the price of the breakfast which of course I had not been able to enjoy. I had to say that I didn’t want to pay, before it was removed.
I feel that the staff conducted themselves very bad, confronted by the problem.
I have now been inconvenienced by the kitchen staff serving bad/old meat for 2 days, my trip to Quedlingburg was completely ruined, I had to drive home to Copenhagen a drive of 6 hours, being very sick during the car trip.

“Great hotel and location”

As we live in Berlin, we decided to have a week-end-getaway only a couple of hours' drive with our 2 teens last august. We settled on Quedlinburg (under UNESCO protection) and on Hameln (home of the piped Piper legend and known as "Hamelin" and "Hamlin" to the English speaking world).

As for Quedlinburg, I chose the Stadtschloss Quedlinburg (translated: City Castle of Quedlinburg) after a bit of internet research. It is part of the Sinnhotels chain which is a good name here in Germany.

The very tastefully renovated 16th century Renaissance building, right in the middle of this UNESCO protected town is amazing. I was told by a young lady at reception that there are some rooms in the original part of the building although ours was located in one of the 2 new side additions. Lifts are available.

We booked last minute but still got a large double room with 2 folding beds for our teens. The room was humongous and clean, with carpet though. Also very big bathroom with top modern and high quality taps. Our windows were on the main courtyrad of the hotel. We paid 140€/night (with breakfast) for us 2 adults + 2 extra folding beds for the kids, which was fine with us.

Breakfast: the breakfast room is in the original part of the castle, with vaults/arches, wooden floors and is very beautiful. Attention to detail was part of the renovation, one can see it. Breakfast was excellent (probably one of the best we've had in years) with all that is expected in Germany plus oven-fresh croissants.... Our kids never ate so much at breakfast ;-)

Unlike by usual trips, we didn't use or need the internet during our stay at this hotel. I do not know anything about this service at this hotel.

Convenient: the Stadtschloss has many of parking spots on the main courtyard for those travelling with their own cars.

Quedlinburg is like an open-air museum (80 ha), completely under UNESCO protection. If one is interested in history and architecture, this is one of the top places in Germany. It has the eldest half-timbered house in the whole of the country ("Ständerbau"), a house that is approx. 700 Years-old. The Collegiate Church of St. Servatius is a must as it boats a priceless collection of unique religious artefacts. The whole town is simply beautiful, wherever one walks. History is always part of it. It is one of the cities in Germany with the most original half-timbered houses.

Good food is to be had right next door, at a little biergarten in front of the hotel which had more reasonnable prices than the hotel restaurant. Salads were large and delicious, portions more than expected. Had we been without the kids, we would have probably eaten at the hotel restaurant but the menu wasn't a family "friendly" one so we moved on. Those of you who have kids, you know what I mean ;-) Also, we had beers at a greek place on a square not too far from the hotel but quickly moved on as the food looked more than average for the money and the choice more than limited (rice and meat, meat and rice, and so on).

All in all, we can only recommand the Stadtschloss in Quedlinburg. The city is simply worth a visit, anytime. And so is the hotel.

“Very nice hotel”

Spent a happy 3 days in this hotel over easter. Staff were very friendly, I speak a little German but they were happy to give as much English as they could. There is a lack of ambiance here, still trying to catch up with the west I feel, nevertheless a great little hotel.
I booked over the phone wiht a fax confirmation, no problems at all got exactly what I paid for.
The breakfasts were superb and the dinners we had were excellent to, the snack bar in the bar good if yo dont ant restaurant standard food. A nice little Sauna...naked... and a little Jacuzzi, would have been nice if they had had a pool. Parking at the rear of the hotel excellent, walking distance of all the amenities in the little medieval town, would highly recommend

“A Great Hotel - You Get What You Pay For Here”

A friend of mine who lives in Quedlinburg found and booked this hotel for us. We stayed here 3 nights.

THIS is a good hotel in the middle of a beautiful city. It is located right in the center of town on Bockstrasse, only a 2 minute walk from the main plaza. It is newly remodeled, clean, spacious (we stayed in room B310 which had a quiet courtyard view) and the bathroom was very big with a glass walk-in shower (no tub) and modern fixtures. The beds were very comfortable and the room had good storage and all the amenities you'd expect.

When we arrived, the hotel desk clerk personally showed us to our room, spoke excellent English, and gave us quality service throughout our stay.

Breakfasts are served in an elegant dining room with fancy linens and smart looking serving staff. Food was excellent and plentiful.

Room rate was 120 Euros per night, and worth it for what we received in comfort and service. This is not a budget hotel.
