“Great service, good location, nice accommodation”

I am a tour guide from Northern Ireland and visit many hotels during the year. I cannot believe the adverse reports written about this hotel. I escorted a group of 40 people to this hotel in 2011 and on the strength of the excellent service, have booked to return with two more groups in 2012. Of course, the location of the hotel is directly beside the railway station but at no time were any of our group inconvenienced by noise, even if they left their windows open. Actually, the location of the station is fantastic for excursions by train. Just across the road from the beautiful promenade, it is just a few minute walk from the port and the town centre.
We opted for a buffet dinner in the evenings and, with a choice of two or three different main courses each evening and a good selection of salads, potatoes and vegetables, we were well catered for. OK, the desserts were maybe not up to much, but none of my group complained. Coffee was excellent, though!
On arrival at the hotel, check-in was completed in a flash and with good sized lifts, even a group of 40 was despatched to their rooms quickly and effortlessly. We had ensured that none of our group, save myself, were on the top floor, which is only acceesible by one flight of stairs. Actually the room under the roof was lovely and very quiet, with the sauna just across the corridor. I've requested the same room for next year!
Furniture in the room was "simple" but good quality with firm and comfortable beds, more than adequate storage and the rooms all had good air-conditioning. With a group of 40 people, there are always a number of requests for extra pillows, etc. or to be close to or far away from the lift. Every single request was met with fast and efficient response.
At the end of the day, you must make up your own mind, but I have no hesitation recommending this hotel and am looking forward enthusiastically to my return visits in 2012.

Room Tip: If you don't mind one flight of stairs to the top floor, book a room under the roof. It is quiet...

“Running on fumes”

Friendly staff at the front desk of this 80s hotel by the train station. Rest of the staff not friendly. Rooms are large for Europe, and we saw a regular room before getting the top floor "studio" we'd reserved.

Big disappointment in both : the hotel is so dirty and poorly maintained I question who manages such a place. Chipped furniture, scuffed walls, burned out lights, and dirty sofas (crumbs in the sofa, stains). Really? We'd just been two weeks in Switzerland where every hotel was spotless if twice as costly. Not having stayed at any other friedrichshafen hotel I don't know how this compares but we were shocked how dirty this place was.

Also : there's no fitness room, just a sauna and steam room. I'd booked this hotel because it was the only one in town advertising a fitness room but that's not correct. Strike three!

“Good Business Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

Hotel is at the main station of the city and hence the best if you are arriving late by train. I chose this hotel for this prime reason. The next best thing is the size of the room. I have stayed in other hotels in the vicinity and I can safely say the size of rooms at the SeeHotel are bigger and more comfortable. The furniture is probably not that great but you have all what you need. I was offered the room at the 3rd floor facing the entrance. The view was great as the lake was visible from my hotel window but I was a little scepticle if the noise from the bus station right below ( the train station is also a fairly busy bus station) would be annoying in the morning or late night. But I did not face any such problem. The breakfast is quite well laid out but is standard as far as the menu is concerned. The staff seemed helpful as normally the brkfast starts after 6:30am but they could provide me with the complete spread at 6am also on the day I was to leave early by the first ferry to Romanshorn. Although I liked the stay here, there are a few areas that the hotel can improve upon. The staff could not provide me with an iron and ironing board in the room and surprisingly asked me to carry my stuff to the first floor where the common facility of ironing was available. The internet facility is quite expensive . Since this is primarly a business hotel , I would expect that such basic "business" services are included as a package or atleast conviniently priced.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd or the 4th floor have great view of the lake

“Seehotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

A very poor hotel. The only advantage I can see is location. The staff is unprofessional and not nice. Equipmet and furniture in rooms are poor and old. Rooms are not clean and noisy. If there is a party in the bar on the reception floor, it is not possible to sleep in the room. There is no wi-fi in the room, cable connetion only and you have to pay for it. 2 Euro/hour. It is expensive... The breakfast just average. I really can not understand how this hotel could get 4 stars. Sorry...

“Probably better for business than pleasure”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

We stayed for three nights at this hotel (family of 3). It is clean, and in a very convenient location. Front desk staff is helpful. The hotel is on the main street, next to the train station, and across from the lake. Very few of the rooms seem to have lake views, but the view from the roof is very nice, with a seating area. The rooms may be the normal size for a European hotel, but they are small by American standards. The room we had was a 'family room' for 3, but really could only fit 2 comfortably. Seating was uncomfortable, and the beds were low and hard. Air Conditioning was not very effective. The bathroom could use updating. The partial glass shower wall is not sufficient to prevent getting the floor wet. The tourist info office next door is very helpful. This seems to be a big tour bus and airline staff destination, which makes dinner reservations a must. The food in the restaurant is really excellent, though, and the breakfast buffet is extensive and very nice. The hotel is billed as a four-star establishment, which seems a little inflated. Cost is about $200 per night.

Room Tip: Family room not really large enough for a family
