I am a tour guide from Northern Ireland and visit many hotels during the year. I cannot believe the adverse reports written about this hotel. I escorted a group of 40 people to this hotel in 2011 and on the strength of the excellent service, have booked to return with two more groups in 2012. Of course, the location of the hotel is directly beside the railway station but at no time were any of our group inconvenienced by noise, even if they left their windows open. Actually, the location of the station is fantastic for excursions by train. Just across the road from the beautiful promenade, it is just a few minute walk from the port and the town centre.
We opted for a buffet dinner in the evenings and, with a choice of two or three different main courses each evening and a good selection of salads, potatoes and vegetables, we were well catered for. OK, the desserts were maybe not up to much, but none of my group complained. Coffee was excellent, though!
On arrival at the hotel, check-in was completed in a flash and with good sized lifts, even a group of 40 was despatched to their rooms quickly and effortlessly. We had ensured that none of our group, save myself, were on the top floor, which is only acceesible by one flight of stairs. Actually the room under the roof was lovely and very quiet, with the sauna just across the corridor. I've requested the same room for next year!
Furniture in the room was "simple" but good quality with firm and comfortable beds, more than adequate storage and the rooms all had good air-conditioning. With a group of 40 people, there are always a number of requests for extra pillows, etc. or to be close to or far away from the lift. Every single request was met with fast and efficient response.
At the end of the day, you must make up your own mind, but I have no hesitation recommending this hotel and am looking forward enthusiastically to my return visits in 2012.
