the place is one of teh oldest in the city... but is also teh newest in terms of decor and look and feel...the best part of the hotel is its location- right in the center of the downtown ...what i did not like is the size of the rooms.. really really small...and if you happen to get a single bed...you probably will have to open your luggage in the hallway...

There's a major issue with the restaurant

1. You cant eat dinner in the restaurant on the day of your arrival.
2. You have to order 24hours in advance from a no choice fixed menu.
3. You can't change or cancel without being charged.
4. The very good breakfast remains unaffected.

My husband stayed here for 2 weeks on business and I joined him for the middle weekend. We stayed in two different rooms, the first a twin which was fine but nothing special, and then we were moved to a double which was nicer and had air conditioning. All hotel staff were friendly and efficient. The breakfast was amazing, with bacon, eggs, sausages, cheeses, meats, pastries, breads, cereals, yoghurts, and lots of different fruits. We did not make use of the pool or sauna. Everywhere was exceptionally clean. Decent hairdryer and toiletries. The Bar is nice and prices very reasonable for a hotel. The location was perfect. Just a minute's stroll down to the lake. Good quality feather pillows and duvets and nice crisp linen. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, but I will just mention a couple of things. It was great to have free wifi in the room but it was a bit of a pain to use and was a little unreliable. There is however a great little cubby-hole in the lobby with computer and free internet there. The sliding door to the bathroom was made of red glass except for the word "bad" which was clear glass (German for bath) so that you could see into the bathroom. Not really a problem since the bathroom is near the hotel room door but could be a little unnerving if your room mate is rummaging in the wardrobe opposite and you are a private person! Also to refrain from the hotel door banging against the glass bathroom door there is a door-stop just outside the bathroom which could be a trip hazard if you're not careful. The bathroom light is way inside the bathroom and a little tricky to find in the dark. However, I think every room may be slightly different so these things may not be a problem if you're not in Room 312! There is a car park, but it is often full and you then have to park in an underground car park elsewhere. I would definitely choose this hotel again.

Was there for 3 weeks in May: Trip was booked by my employers so I stayed in the what must have been the least expensive room, small, clean, modern, inside view and adequate for my needs. I can not say really anything negative about that but if I was paying for a larger room, I would have liked a bit more 'fluff" that I am used to when I travel for my own pleasure.

TV: only English Channel is CNN which only caused me not to sit in my room that much.

Breakfast: Outstanding but one of my American Colleagues said it was missing potatoes. I thought it was more than excellent because they put out smoked salmon weekly and a changing variety of cold cuts, cheeses and more. The hotel restaurant serves dinner as well for those who arrange it before hand.

The Bar: opens at 18:00 hrs (6 PM), there were times where I wished it were opened sooner however there is beer everywhere and the bar once it does open, stays open past midnight.

Staff: Wonderful Nice People, Very Helpful and Friendly!

Location: Best in Town near the water front, harbor and park.

Quiet: I had the window open every night and found the sounds of the courtyard fountain to water bubbling sounds to be very nice. Close the window and you can not hear anything, VERY well sound proofed and solid construction.
