On our third night in Germany we arrived at the Hotel Augustiner Tor. My daughter lives in Konstanz and had booked the room for us. It is downtown and convenient to just about everything. We had wanted to be in the heart of the lovely old city near the pedestrian area and this hotel provided that. We were able to pull up almost in front of the hotel and unload luggage. One of us stayed with the luggage while the other parked the car in a covered public lot not far away. (Few hotels in the downtown area have their own parking.) We had to climb about 6 steps and then an elevator was available to take us to check-in and then to our room. This is a small hotel. We were greeted warmly by our host (check-in is a card table set up in the breakfast room!) and then went to our room. It was small, but immaculate and quiet –crisp white sheets and a fresh clean smell. Our daughter had requested a room which did NOT open onto the main street as June is warm and few hotels are air conditioned unless you have very deep pockets. We wanted to be able to have our windows open at night. The bath was one of the nicest we had in a month of traveling. --Ultra clean and spacious. We spent a quit, comfortable night and breakfast was quite good. I can also recommend a good restaurant in the area--the Hafenhalle Restaurant at Hafenstrasse 10 . It had a wide selection, great food and good service. We went with some locals who say that they keep coming back.
