When was the last time you lived in a BOQ? When was the last time you lived in a solid old German Wehrmacht four storey barrack which had been confiscated by the French Army for some 40 years? And when was the last time you and your spouse occupied a room that used to sleep a dozen young men in bunk beds?
Relax. The entire building has been renovated. Four meter high rooms with an area of estimated 60 square meters give you the feeling of a nice suite. The wooden floor is solid parquet, not squeaking with every step as you might expect. There is a little kitchen, a bathroom, a living room area and a bed. In the corridors you can still see the niches where the gun holders were. They now host (gun nuts will wince) wonderful images of flowers. Free superfast WLAN is included. The breakfast buffet is excellent. And so is the overall service.
The Apartment Hotel is in an area preferably occupied by university students, and yet it is extremely quiet. Even though our last visit was in July and blossom time was over, your nostrils are filled with a rich scent of nature you might expect in a botanical garden, thanks to the many old trees and the vicinity of Lake Constance and the river Rhine. A ten minute walk brings you over a foot and bicycle bridge into the lovely city, with excavations from its third century history as a Roman Fort. A word of advice regarding your car: Leave it at the hotel. The inner city is perched in between the lake, the river and the Swiss border. Pak garage quickly sum up for 10 or 20 Euro a day and you often have to wait half an hour to get in. For 1,50 per person and day the hotels offer an all day ticket that is good for all buses in the entire city as well as to the neighboring suburbs.
I was born here, I grew up in this city. I frequently come back and I know the city well. The Apartment Hotel with its affordable price, with its location, with its amenities, with its spacious rooms, the excellent parking possibilities is the best deal you can get in the entire city.
