“A novel hotel experience, with very helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

Stayed for two nights with the family. The room was spacious and comfortable, but at first sight the location and the building take a little getting used to. It's located in an area of social housing across the bridge from the Altstadt and the building appears to have been an old hospital at one time. That said, there are a great many advantages to the place: buses to the Altstadt (a 5 minute walk to the bus, then a 3 min ride - free to hotel guests). Staff were extremely helpful and informative - very anxious that we should enjoy our stay - and breakfast was excellent. The 'apartment' had a small kitchenette and bathroom, and open plan living and sleeping area. Our family of 4 fitted in nicely. No air-conditioning but the old building is naturally cool. Best thing was that the hotel had bicycles for hire - and Konstanz is very much a cycle-friendly city, with well-marked paths everywhere. We rode ours to the beautiful 'island' of Reichnau, a terrific day trip in fine weather.

“Best hotel in Konstanz if you have a car”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2010

Very clean and lots of space. The kitchenette is a bonus and the bathroom is basic, clean and functional. The breakfast was included andextensive in choice. Reception was extermely helpful, but they were the only English speakers. But my schoolboy German was more than enough to allow me to get everything I needed.
10 minute walk to the old town, 2 minutes to the supermarket, 5 minutes to the lake and river.

Abso;utely loved our 3 week stay. It is so clean ( and we are picky about this), comfortable & well appointed. Easy walk to downtown, waterfront, festivities, shopping, restaurants etc. Great service and help from all the staff. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

“Something different”

When was the last time you lived in a BOQ? When was the last time you lived in a solid old German Wehrmacht four storey barrack which had been confiscated by the French Army for some 40 years? And when was the last time you and your spouse occupied a room that used to sleep a dozen young men in bunk beds?
Relax. The entire building has been renovated. Four meter high rooms with an area of estimated 60 square meters give you the feeling of a nice suite. The wooden floor is solid parquet, not squeaking with every step as you might expect. There is a little kitchen, a bathroom, a living room area and a bed. In the corridors you can still see the niches where the gun holders were. They now host (gun nuts will wince) wonderful images of flowers. Free superfast WLAN is included. The breakfast buffet is excellent. And so is the overall service.
The Apartment Hotel is in an area preferably occupied by university students, and yet it is extremely quiet. Even though our last visit was in July and blossom time was over, your nostrils are filled with a rich scent of nature you might expect in a botanical garden, thanks to the many old trees and the vicinity of Lake Constance and the river Rhine. A ten minute walk brings you over a foot and bicycle bridge into the lovely city, with excavations from its third century history as a Roman Fort. A word of advice regarding your car: Leave it at the hotel. The inner city is perched in between the lake, the river and the Swiss border. Pak garage quickly sum up for 10 or 20 Euro a day and you often have to wait half an hour to get in. For 1,50 per person and day the hotels offer an all day ticket that is good for all buses in the entire city as well as to the neighboring suburbs.
I was born here, I grew up in this city. I frequently come back and I know the city well. The Apartment Hotel with its affordable price, with its location, with its amenities, with its spacious rooms, the excellent parking possibilities is the best deal you can get in the entire city.

“Like upscale student living”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2008

The hotel is located north of the river in a neighborhood that seems popular with students -- not surprising, as it's close to the university. It got loud on a Friday night, and I had the choice of leaving the window open for some cool air (there's no air conditioning), or closing it to keep the noise out. I chose the latter.

Perhaps the best thing about the rooms is their size. My room on the first floor had high ceilings, and all of the rooms appear to have a kitchenette. There's also free wi-fi and the included breakfast was pretty good.

The rooms were recently refurbished, and the furnishings, while fine, are of the IKEA variety. I particularly disliked the bed -- uncomfortable mattress and cheap linens. Combined with the lack of air conditioning and my inevitable jet lag, it made for a somewhat uncomfortable stay.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful -- they're definitely one of the hotel's good points. Unfortunately, the front desk clerks go home at 10 p.m., although there is an emergency phone number.
