“A bit pricey for what it was.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2010

The hotel staff were fantastic! Check in was no problem at all and they were able to handle all our questions about Big White Resort and had some great recommendations.
The price we paid was a little expensive for what it was but overall it was on hill accommodation so you would expect that. The murphy bed wasn't as bad as everyone talked about.
Although the hotel says it is ski in, ski out unless you were happy to ski on the road then it was ski in ski out otehrwise you would have to walk down the road a little. Same for skiing back in. Unless you were happy to ski on a road then it was ski in ski out.

“great location & staff, poor lodging”

We were treated very well by the staff, but the room was definitely an inferior one considering the fee of $130. It had an uncomfortable murphy bed and an even worse sofa bed... Skiers tend to need comfy mattresses after a hard day's riding and this hotel did not have good beds!

“Lazy or disinterested staff, poor restaurant, awful room cleaning.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2008

A disapointing stay here this season, was looking forward to the legendary Canadian hospitality, all we got was indifferent Aussie attitude.

I'll start with a positive: The room was spacious and very quiet.

Otherwise;

Rooms were not cleaned, towels may get refreshed if you are lucky, the bath was never cleaned, the hot tub looks like a festering swamp, reception staff had a distinct lack of knowledge ie: asked reception a dialing code - was told ' if I see the bell boy he might know it' never heard anything more, found it in the hotel info myself later.
Tried to get a shuttle to Silver Star, told by the reception staff where to get shuttle- but not that I would need to book it first, waited around at half seven for a bus which never came.

Room service phone went unanswered, rang reception to be told 'Oh yeah mate they're pretty busy' never got room service.

Went to breakfast on one occasion (had been avoiding it) told we could only have buffet, no chef present.

If you have the option go to Crystal Inn.

“We thought it was fine!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 April 2007

I stayed at the Inn at Big White for 9 days with my partner and 13 year old son - it was our first time in a Canadian ski resort and we thought it was fine, especially compared to what the same money would buy in a European resort. It was the last week of the skiing season, so things were winding down a bit, and the cleaning of the rooms was,as other people have found, a bit haphazard. However a quick request to the people in reception always got things sorted out, and we didnt have the sort of serious dirt problems mentioned by other reviewers

The hot tub was open but the jets weren't working, this however didnt seem to me to be much of a problem , as I thought the outdoor pool was fantastic and swam in it every day.

We ate in the restaurant a couple of times - it was OK but there are better places eg we liked the bistro at the deli.

There isnt really any sort of social space downstairs apart from the restaurant, so there isnt anywhere other than the restaurant to hang out with other people who are staying there - our teenager in particular would have liked somewhere like a games room or something. We went to Happy Valley quite a lot for this sort of thing, but somewhere downstairs would have been better. I noticed that the Crystal Inn had something like this, also quite a few of the condo complexes.I would consider one of the condos if I was going again - some of them look very nice, and most of them have hot tubs on their balconies.

The ski in and out worked pretty well - the snow was melting so skis had to be removed to get across a road ,otherwise it is just minutes from the slopes.

All in all, it was perfectly fine - and the swimming pool was a really big bonus for me!

  • Liked — The swimming pool
  • Disliked — The lack of social space downstairs

“worst stay in a Canadian Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2007

We are just back from skiing in Big White. The Inn at big white was a hugh dissapointment. This is the 6th time we have been to Cananda and we were were surprised to find such poor service. The hotel is run by young Austalians on a "year out" and on minimum wage. They are all very friendly but there did not appear to be any management at all. The breakfat buffet and evening meals were good, the reception staff were helpful but the big surprise was the poor housekeeping. The room was not cleaned properly, one day was not cleaned at all, the waste bin was not emptied on a number of occasions, the bathroom floor had bits on it all week, the bath was not cleaned, the floor not nice to walk on in bare feet and when checking below the bed for any missing things I wished I hadn't! Food debis and old dirty ear plugs festering there! Only one of the 5 ceiling lights worked (2 days to replace bulbs) and the hot tub was out of order for 3 days and the changing room a mess. If Big White management do wish to encourage more europeans to stay they will have to raise their standards.
We had 1 week at Lake Louise Inn after Big White and (despite the room being $11 CD per night cheaper) the standards were far superior.
