“Stay away from this residence !”

Do not go there with kids. We had 4 person's appt and only 1 blanket. If you want to sleep at night , stay away from this place. You will experience drunk people making wild noises , singing, crying all night long, everywere in rooms, coridors and balconys. Residence's staff doesen't care about about it. No smoking/no smoking rooms. Don,t go there .

“Pay for what you get!!”

The only thing true about this complex is its Ski in and Ski out location. You can ski directly into the locker room which is ideal. We had an apartment for 7/8 which had 2 twin rooms & 1 bathroom upstairs. This apartment should only be used to sleep 4max. 3 of our group slept downstairs on the sofas with one pull out bed underneath and with a curtain dividing them. The sitting room/bedroom had only 2 small radiators and it was constantly freezing in there.
The resort of Val Thoren is a lively and young resort. Le Cheval blanc is a ten min uphill walk to the nightlife. There are lifts across from le cheval blanc but 5 nights out of the 7 they were not working!! The complex is extremely noisy with all students partying. They only way to get some sleep is to have a few glasses of vino or a sleeping tablet...
From a skiing perspective Val Thorens is ideal. It has brilliant slopes and fantastic views but dont stay in Le Cheval Blanc!!!!

“Noisiest place I have ever stayed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Le Cheval Blanc isn't far off from being decent budget accomodation. It is genuinely ski-in ski-out right to the locker room door, the location is great, the rooms are what you pay for, basic but clean and it has a resturant, bar and BBC1 & 2 on the TV.

The problem is if you stay here you accept that you will have disturbed sleep for the duration. On one night, the music, shouting and people running along the corridors lasted until 4am. When I complained, I was told they had a student party in. Looking at the people there I suspect they have students every week. They said they would fine and evict persistent offenders but I got the impression they didn't have to stomach to tackle it. It appears that Le Cheval Blanc is managed from arms length by the neighbouring Hotel Montana. Le Cheval Blanc didn't appear to be policed at night so it was a free for all.

Also, a quantity of food had been dropped on the floor in a public corridor and it had not been cleaned up 24 hours later. I suspect the Montana next door is a much better option.

As I was waiting to leave, the new arrivals of young men armed with more crates of beer than luggage were turning up.

If you have children don't even consider it. What saddens me about this place is it really could be good if they bother to run it properly.

“Good value for money”

Reception open 24hrs on changeover day of Saturday. We booked a 6/8 person apartment with lift passes included in the deal. Walked up to reception, all lift passes ready, 2 locker keys and 6 key cards for the apartment (only 1 had problems working later in the week). Apartment over 2 levels with 2 bedrooms and shower room on mezzanine floor and separate bedroom downstairs.
Kitchen much better equipped than previous Alpine apartments we have used. Wifi was a bit intermittent, generally fine to access between 7am and 5pm. Towels and sheets provided. Ski locker big enough for 6 snowboards, which was a major plus. Direct access from locker room onto slopes. All in all, great value for what we paid. Would use again

“Student halls of residence comes to mind”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Stayed here January 2012. Really wish I had read some reviews before booking. We travelled with Inghams and It looked and read quite well on the website.

As previously said Great access to lifts and ski schools and friendly staff but the good bit ends there.

Small tired appartments with a real feeling of neglect which carries on throughout the building. Didn't get any sleep the first 3 nights due to constant partying by the other residents, loud music which made the room shake, shouting, banging and crashing, youths throwing up on and over the balconys. The french law regarding quiet after 10 pm is a joke. Partys started at 10, just as we went to bed and usually ended at about 5 am. The open landings design of the building means that no matter what floor you are on you are going to hear the party. Don't stay here if you want to sleep at night, you wont

The resorts skiing is second to none, it's such a shame this accommodation has let the side down.
No Kettle or Microwave
