“Dirty, smelly and noisey”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I cant tell you how disappointed I was when on this my first snow boarding holiday I stayed here! the room was very small (it did have lots of storage) we booked a room for 4 and there were two of us. There was bunk beds and a fold out beds (no doubles).
We were greeted by the smell of sick in the corridor outside our room, which remained there all week. The room looked like it had not been properly cleaned all season especially the bathroom, which was not great when you wanted to relax after a hard day on the slopes. there was even egg on the wall in the front room area.
there was a pull down table and cooking facilities were just about adequate - no kettle tho.
The noise was terrible, every morning we woke up to people on the stairs.
the balcony was a joke it was covered in snow, sick, ash and whatever else had fallen down from above!
the location was not bad it is a small resort anyway.
There was one key provided so we had to stay together most of the time, which was not too bad for us, it was have been more difficult if there would have been more of us!
Pets are allowed- which is great if you have pets, not great if you dont want to hear dogs barking
I definately would never stay here again, there is no spa, which was advertised on the website. I would probably not go back to Val Thorens, its too quiet. I am not usualy a picky person and can pretty much 'make do' with any situation, but this was not good!

“Poor service. Badly managed.”

Stayed over Christmass 2011 there. It was a beginning of the season, and a one would expect that they should have been prepared and everything in order, however, it was a mess.

The second key was not provided, hence with 3 adults on the slopes it was difficult to coordinate who comes when to the ski lockers and I missed my snowboard lesson.

The kitchen was not fully equipped, with lots of things missing - bowls, knives, saucepan lids, water jar, just name. So could not cook and serve properly.

The room was missing a chair and one person could not have a place at the table.

The common area in the ski lockers was not cleaned, with rubbish and empty cans. Apartment kitchen was poorly cleaned as well.

The receptionist politely promised to resolve all problems, however never delivered in full, the hotel manager, Julien Cusay, did not care to show up to talk either.

When the receptionist was asked for a complains book or forms she said that she did not know where that was. And the shift manager denied to accept any written complain submission or give a receipt of such request, just suggested some e-mail address to write, and was refusing to provide his name.

It was our second say there, season 10/11 had been grant, which was the reason we picked Olympiades again. Otherwise, it is located quite well, nearly ski in/out, with Spar, Carrefour, and a highly recommended Orange Ski shop next door. It is a shame that the place is such rubbish now.

“Brilliant Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

This was my first time on a winter sports holiday and I had read the reviews prior to going, so to say I was concerned about the accommodation was an understatement!

I was part of a group of 6 travelling, and we had 3 studios meant for 3 people in each (we had 2 per room). The room wasn't exactly spacious for 2 people, but it was clean, always warm and had all the facilities you would need for this type of holiday, including a bath with infinite amounts of hot water to help aching muscles!

Regards the noise levels at night, I stayed on the 5th floor at the front of the building and only experienced a lot of noise one night, which was new years eve so that was to be expected.

As a beginner, the nursery slopes were a 5-10 minute walk away but more capable skiiers could shorten that by taking slopes to the lifts. There was snow right outside the main door and so in my opinion, the ski-in ski-out description was pretty accurate.

For most of the nightlife, it was about a 10-15 minute walk to where the majority of bars and restaurants were but there were still a couple closer, as well as a bowling alley 2 minutes away that showed sports on a big screen each night (with free wi-fi as well). Choice of restaurants in the whole resort isn't great, but there are 2 supermarkets outside the door, as well as takeaway pizzas / burgers/ kebabs and rotisserie chicken.

Overall, if you are looking to go to a brilliant ski resort on a relatively small budget, I would definitely recommend staying here. Granted I don't have any other winter sports holiday experience to compare it to, but I will definitely be back next year!

I read the reviews on here and was worried to say the least.

My concerns were for the most part unfounded.

Yes the hotel is extremely basic, no towels, very small and you have to pay for virtually everything in addition - taxes, safe etc. But if you are going for a budget holiday then this is what you ought to expect!

On the plus side, the room was clean warm and perfectly located for the slopes. Not sure the last review meant in relation to ski in ski out. We skied home to the front door everyday, in the morning we did have a short walk up hill to get to the right place for ski school, but could have easily had a shorter walk, if no ski school.

On the whole, would I stay here again? Probably not, as I prefer a bit more comfort, but if you are looking for cheap and cheerful, you wont do far wrong here.

Room Tip: We travelled as 4 adults, the suites were small but ok, 1 bedroom plus sofa bed in lounge. Rooms fa...

“disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

I booked this holiday with Inghams particularly choosing it as it was described as ski in - ski out. On my return I complained to Inghams that as we had to carry our skis about 100m before we could ski that I am convinced thay should only describe it as 'near the piste'. This might sound pedantic and the distance was no issue for the teenage boys I took but as and older mother with health issues it was a problem to me. I also complained that the brochure states there is an oven when in fact there was only a tiny microwave with hardly any cooking equipment making self catering options limiting . Our eat out budget went through the roof. I am posting this late -we actually went February 2010 but I am very disappointed that Inghams treated me as a professional complainer ( I have never complained about any other holiday). I am even more disappointed that the brochure and on line description for 2012 is unchanged.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 5th floor at the back and it was still noisy.
