“Expensive for what it offers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 March 2008

The hotel is new. The rooms are modern with a sobre design (consistent with the photos on their website). The hotel is well positioned (very close to the slopes) with a wonderful view from the rooms on the mountain. The restaurant is good with a professional staff. But this is not a real four stars’ hotel. Small details are not taken care of and we had the feeling that there is a certain level of "greediness" inconsitent with a top level hotel: (i) no minibar in the room; (ii) champoo and shower gel are not renewed each day; (iii) no skin cream available at the bathroom; (iv) you have to pay 7€ extra if you want an omelette in your breakfast; (v) people at the reception are quite cold. Of course, all these are small details but when you pay full quality you expect to have it. Furthermore, when we made our booking (3 months before) we have asked to have a high floor room which was confirmed but at our surprises we were at the first floor. We believe that even if it may be one of the nicest hotels in town it does not worth the 300€ paid for.

“bad experience with this hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2008

I reserved a week through planigo.com in ski dor that seemed nice from the web site and descriptions. But ariving there we had a lot of bad surprises .Starting with the superior and arrogant atitude of the manager of the hotel .The rooms we had 1 and 2 were in the second floor minus and they are the smallest rooms I ever seen .Actually in room nr.1 the double bed was really small probablly 1,40m width and everything in the room was tiny like for dools. All of these gave me a depresive status ,I wanted to feel good in my holyday for wich I payed good money .
In the first day we arrived we noticed a strong draught in the room and when I asked the manager to send somebody to check the windows he laughted in my face telling me that is impossible to be draughty.
Also he said that ''you have what you payed for''.
So we leaved two payed rooms for one week and in the second day we mooved out.
The manager not even asked why we are leaving early.Actually he was busy to sell again our rooms.
I heard a lot about french insolence and bad behavior but now I have the confirmation of this fact.
Expensive hotel for what they offer and realy unpleasant atitude.

“Very nice and cosy ...”

Just back from the ski d'or. It is a very cosy hotel indeed. The location is perfect, food great, staff friendly and the price is honest. I don't understand were the bad comment from the first poster came from, but for us the ski d'or is the best place one can go in Val Claret.

“Lovely Stay”

We spend our holiday in this lovely HOTEL LE SKI D'OR. We enjoyed our last 2 weeks with such a nice weather and an excellent snow quality. The hotel restaurant is fantastic (food and service) and the hotel staff is very helpful.
The room had a beautiful view on the slopes and they are very quiet.
We advise to all our friends to go in this hotel.

“Never again I'm going to a 3* hotel next time”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2005

This hotel was a disaster from beginning to end! The beginning - we are shown to our room where there was no tv, it had had a lick of paint but the bathroom was straight from the 70s except that the 70s lino had clearly recently been scraped off the floor leaving lots of fluff/dust stuck to the floor, there were two very dim bedside lights and that was it for lighting (we could hardly see), the bare wires for the phone were sticking out of the phone and out of the wall but no socket on the wall or plug on the end of the phone wires and to top it all off the room stank of stale tobacco. The hotel sorted things out - sprayed all sorts of chemicals to remove the smell, by the evening provided a television and another small light after been prompted twice and two days later the phone was connected.
Not a good start and it got worse... we had been told that the smell of tobacco was due to a family who had been staying at the hotel the week before - not so, every night we had to keep the window open (bear in mind it was cold in the Alps!) to get rid of the smell of cigarettes and cigars wafting through the door from the bar and seating area outside our room. We mentioned this to the hotel and they did nothing to sort it out and we later found out they have had the same complaint before us.
On top of this, forget restful sleep to prepare for skiing - we were constantly kept awake by noise from the bar and seating area (both talking and music) and once this stopped the noise from the emptying of the nightclub opposite the hotel started so any sleep before about 3 or 4 in the morning was impossible.
So we hoped that breakfast would set us up for the day as sleep hadn't. But, although breakfast was billed to run until 9h30 if you got there later than 8h50 you were going to have a very restricted choice for breakfast. In fact, on our last day we ended up not having breakfast as there was only baguette left (unless you count cold meat and yogurt for breakfast). Not to mention the continued passive smoking due to other guests smoking at breakfast.
And the smaller gripes but ones I feel that make this hotel not a 4 star - the words that springs to mind are "tight" and "inconsistent" - tight with the toiletries: 1 pack tissues, 1 shampoo, 1 shower gel and 1 soap. Shampoo and shower gel were only replaced when absolutely empty and there seemed to be a policy not to replace the soap or tissues! Slippers suddenly turned up on day 3 as did a bottle water on another day but the water was never replaced. The place is not organised re info on arrival (e.g we weren't told that there was a code to get in after 22h and got locked out at 21h(sic.) and had to ask re time of dinner. The ski room was a mess and boot rack was not always heated at night.
Only one good thing about the place - the restaurant is great in the evening and the bottle of genepi given to guests when they leave. But in the future I will go back to staying 3* in Tignes (my experience of such hotels in Tignes over the years is that they are are better than this hotel) and will simply dine at the hotel one evening.
