“Ski in / Ski out; friendly staff; safe, clean, good food...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed here this past week for 4 nights and loved it. It is situated right next to several lifts and free beginner lifts as well. Ski up to the front door, put your equipment in one of their safe lockers, head into the bar and have a drink; book a jacuzzi time to relax and unwind, eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner with all very good food. A full bar, a nice selection of wines, very family orientated with friendly staff, nicely situated to where everything is walking distance. There is a fireplace on the main floor with comfy chairs to unwind in with a hot drink from the bar. Schedule a massage if you choose; they have a room near the jacuzzi they bring in a massage therapist to use; although not that quiet and my massage therapist wasn't great...We asked for a kettle for our room which they provided. One note I must point out; although there are safes in the rooms, my wife forgot to lock her wedding rings (two diamond rings 3ct) that she wears in the sae when we left for skiing one day. About an hour later she remembered they were left in the bathroom and scrambled back to the room to find that the maid service / cleaners had already been through the room. They cleaned around the rings and left them where my wife left them. This is huge to us as the thousands of dollars we could have lost by leaving them there for any dishonest housecleaner would have been a very sour ending to our trip. Honest people, very safe, clean rooms. Just bring your own shampoo and conditioner as they do not supply those.... ;) Hair dryer, safe, comfortable beds, daily cleaning, enough room for a queen bed, my wife and another twin bed for my 6 year old, right on the slopes to ski in and a two minute walk to the closest lifts...great snow too and the resort is absolutly amazing; just huge!

Room Tip: We were in room # 15; nice view of the slopes, 2nd floor near the elevator...

“Has to be the best location in Les 2 Alpes!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We returned on 21st January after a week staying at the Souleil'Or. We thought the hotel was excellent - we loved our room which although not particularly spacious, was spotless (as was the rest of the hotel) and overlooked the Belle Etoile chair and pistes. We loved the food (which was of a very high standard) and the variety of the menus - which included oysters and foie gras (not something you come across in your average ski package hotel). We loved the staff who were friendly, helpful and spoke fantastic English and were very patient when we tried to speak French, and we loved the location which, as others have already said, is so close to the Belle Etoile lift, we could practically jump on it from the balcony! Just remember, if you're skiing home, save enough leg power to get yourself down Valentin (black) otherwise you'll be on the chair or even worse, stuck on Desmoiselles with a class of beginners.

The little poma beside the Belle Etoile is free great for beginners (and good fun after a heavy snow fall (2ft on Saturday) if you want to pass time waiting for the chair to be dug out.

NB, as well as being in a perfect location for the slopes, the hotel is also far enough away from the centre of the resort and the nasty bars and clubs that are omnipresent in a purpose built resort, that you won't be disturbed by the drunks heading home.

“Une tres bonne experience / a very good experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

After a week visiting Friends and Family, My wife and I decided to settle for some quality time (after jettisoning the kids) in les Deux Alpes at the Souleil d´Or.
First, the location: The Hotel is perfectly placed 30 meters away from the 1st lift and the Ski-pass / Ecole de Ski stop, it doesn´t get better than that.
Welcome & staff: The Staff is very nice and attentive - a very rare trait in France and pretty flexibile. They go beyong the call of duty. after a small ski incindent (not in my twenties anymore...), the owner gratiously called a Doctor and dropped me in front of the Office. In addition, you can´t fail to notice that the Hotel is very well organized and managed - another rare trait in France.
The Hotel itself is very tidy, nicely decorated and has the amenities of of 3+ stars with Jaccuzzi and Hamman.
As for the food, we tested the Dinner and the Lunch and the food was of excellent quality.
A very good address indeed.

We selected Le Soleil d'Or after visiting the restaurant and sun terrace on a previous visit. The hotel is a superior quality establishment for its class and its position next to the slopes is unparalleled. If you have children, you could not wish for more convenience and the rooms and food are first rate.

So what's the catch? Well, to stay there, you'd better either be French or have absorbed that whole Peter Mayle "Year in Provence" thing so that you are really into the Gallic approach to hospitality. Fortunately, my wife is bilingual because no effort whatsoever was made to communicate in English to me or the children. The service was formal and polite in the usual spirit of egalite and all that but I got the impression that most of the hotel was populated by Francophone regulars from France and Belgium and we were kind of inconveniently intruding on a family event.

A lot of people are going to really like this hotel and will be delighted to escape the prepackaged standard offer and the loud, in-your-face English invasion of other resorts. But take along your cultural awareness, an extensive phrasebook or translator and sense of humour.

“If you want comfort, cleanliness, good food, friendly staff, good location look no more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2010

We were a party of 13 visiting in February 2010. I have been skiiing in Alps this last 6 years and by far this is the best value hotel we have stayed in for nice airey comfortable rooms (good quality mattresses - no past their sell by date old mattresses) with good storage space in rooms, excellent meals, nice bar and restaurant, friendly staff and ski from/to door and lockable ski/boot lockers.
Quiet location for sleeping but just short walking distance to bars etc. Hotel is off drunks home route so stays quiet throughout night! Drinks in hotel bar are reasonably priced so no need to drink outside hotel when you are shattered after a days skiing.
Its a family run hotel.
We did not use sauna, fitness room or outside jacuzzi.
Staff are really helpful with professional manner and good sense of humour.
We will go back.
