We returned on 21st January after a week staying at the Souleil'Or. We thought the hotel was excellent - we loved our room which although not particularly spacious, was spotless (as was the rest of the hotel) and overlooked the Belle Etoile chair and pistes. We loved the food (which was of a very high standard) and the variety of the menus - which included oysters and foie gras (not something you come across in your average ski package hotel). We loved the staff who were friendly, helpful and spoke fantastic English and were very patient when we tried to speak French, and we loved the location which, as others have already said, is so close to the Belle Etoile lift, we could practically jump on it from the balcony! Just remember, if you're skiing home, save enough leg power to get yourself down Valentin (black) otherwise you'll be on the chair or even worse, stuck on Desmoiselles with a class of beginners.
The little poma beside the Belle Etoile is free great for beginners (and good fun after a heavy snow fall (2ft on Saturday) if you want to pass time waiting for the chair to be dug out.
NB, as well as being in a perfect location for the slopes, the hotel is also far enough away from the centre of the resort and the nasty bars and clubs that are omnipresent in a purpose built resort, that you won't be disturbed by the drunks heading home.
