Stayed at the Aalborg hotel for a week in February and had a nice time. The resort is good if you ski, but not a lot to do if you don`t. Snow was great but cold, so wrap up!
The hotel is in one of the best locations, ski in and out.
Our room was warm, spacious and cleaned every day. The bathroom was nice and had a heated towel rack , which was a great extra. We were disappointed with our room location, because we were on the ground floor. We paid extra for a piste view with balcony and now wish we did not. We were on the ground floor and could see the piste but there were 2 pine trees in the way, which completely spoiled it. The ski shop in the basement was very convenient and service was good. You get your own locker to store you skis and boots, but there is no drying room, which was a shame.
This hotel is great if you are going as a group but would not recommend as a couple. The bar area is small and was taken over by the groups every night, so no quite evening chilling out with a glass of wine.
Food was poor quality and I am sticking by it. I would rate it as canteen style. Breakfast was edible and ate it because there was nothing else and already paid for it. Orange juice is from machine, highly diluted with water, scrambled eggs swimming in water, and generally everything overcooked. Croissants were good and fresh. Lunch was good, but you had to pay for it. Dinner was the same quality as the breakfast. We ate it because we paid for it. Food was tasteless and blend. It was definately not 3star quality. If you like your food and expect quality then I would choose another hotel. Also the only adult managing the place seemed to be the manager, who was helpful and always smiling. The rest were 18-23 year olds, which again did not feel me with great confidence. Don`t get me wrong, they were smiling and helpful, but again did not feel the 3 star quality from the service and attitude. Just to give an example, the mustard was a year out of date and we had to tell the staff twice to change it! Come on guys, Stock rotation!
The spa is small but service was great!
All in all, we had a lovely week, found a brilliant restaurant, called Castra Nostra, which I would highly recommend.
I would not return to the Aalborg and probably would not use Neilson again. I like great quality of service and food, which I feel we did not get here.
Room Tip: not ground floor
