“great location, great staff and great hotel”

Stayed at the Hotel Aalborg from 04 Feb 2012 to 11 Feb 2012. We travelled in a group of 26 people all at various levels of skiing, and no one had a bad word to say about the hotel or resort. Personally i was with my partner and our 3 year old daughter (Poppy) who attended the " Kids Club". We couldnt have asked for anymore with Mike the creche manager and his team. On the first day whilst on the piste we recieved updates on our daughter which put us at ease and allowed us to enjoy our skiing. Poppy enjoyed the rest of the week doing all kinds of activities ranging from snow play, cooking cakes/ biscuits and art and crafts.
The Hotel is basic, but the nielson team did the basics very well and nothing was to much trouble to ask for. There was a good standard and variation of food in the restaurant and they also did early tea for the kids.
There are 3 black runs down to the hotel off the moutain which are enjoyable, failing that take the green run but i would advise against this if on a board.
Overall myself, partner and poppy would definatelty return to this Hotel and resort. Everybody in the group enjoyed themselves. Thank you neilson team 2012. See you again soon.

“Great Location, Average food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Stayed at the Aalborg hotel last week (February 4th to 11th) and found the place pretty enjoyable. The location is very good though a little bit of a walk to the Jandri Express/White Eggs; two of the main lifts up the mountain. The walks nothing serious but if you are carrying your and someone else skis it’s a bit of drag. There is a cross county green track that easily takes you back to the hotel when you come off the mountain or even go up one of the button drags near the White Eggs Lift. The room was quite acceptable without being exceptional. We paid extra for a piste view with balcony and were rewarded with a nice view of the slopes. The ski shop in the basement is convenient and service is good but it’s all a bit tight first thing when everyone wants to get out on the snow. The bar was wee bit noisy and there was a little bad language which isn’t fair when there are kids about. Breakfast was like the room acceptable quality however the meals at night were reasonable pleasant. It was good enough to say I’ll likely go back again.

Room Tip: Higher up the in the main hotel are probably best. The new section involves walking down one level a...

“Great Hotel, Great Location.”

We stayed here in a group of 25. The hotel is in a good location on the nursery slopes. You can take a drag lift from right outside the boot room and ski over to the main lift. Skiing back to the boot room at the end of the day was a bonus. Ski lessons can be booked near reception and the meeting point is right outside the hotel.

The hire shop is located in the basement of the hotel. Residents get a locker with boot dryers inside. This area could get a little cramped at peak times but there is seating a little further away towards the exit. It's all very handy.

The bar in the hotel is reasonably priced compared with the rest of the resort. The bar was staffed by the Neilson staff who were friendly and efficient. A decent sized wine list was available with a different wine being on offer at a discount every evening before dinner. there is free WiFi in the bar that was always working when I used it.

I enjoyed the food every night. 2 choices for starter, 3 choices for main, 2 choices for dessert and a cheese board every night. Each course always included at least one veggie option. The staff in the restaurant, all Neilson, were again, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful, pastries, breads, jams and a hot selection which I can't comment on as I didn't have any.

Our room was well heated. Cleaned every day. Had a lovely bathroom, plenty of hot water and a heated towel rail which was handy. My only complaint would be a lack of space to put your clothes, only 4 coat hangers and 2 wardrobe shelves, no draws.

The best things about the hotel for me was the location and the staff. The staff were all very eager to help with nothing being too much trouble, a credit to Neilson. Never before have I found Tour Op staff so helpful. As there were so many around you could have any query answered pretty much instantly.

I'd say this an excellent value 3 star hotel. Nothing below what I'd expect from 3 stars with a few things I was pleasantly surprised by.

“Great location, poor food”

Stayed at the Aalborg hotel for a week in February and had a nice time. The resort is good if you ski, but not a lot to do if you don`t. Snow was great but cold, so wrap up!
The hotel is in one of the best locations, ski in and out.
Our room was warm, spacious and cleaned every day. The bathroom was nice and had a heated towel rack , which was a great extra. We were disappointed with our room location, because we were on the ground floor. We paid extra for a piste view with balcony and now wish we did not. We were on the ground floor and could see the piste but there were 2 pine trees in the way, which completely spoiled it. The ski shop in the basement was very convenient and service was good. You get your own locker to store you skis and boots, but there is no drying room, which was a shame.
This hotel is great if you are going as a group but would not recommend as a couple. The bar area is small and was taken over by the groups every night, so no quite evening chilling out with a glass of wine.
Food was poor quality and I am sticking by it. I would rate it as canteen style. Breakfast was edible and ate it because there was nothing else and already paid for it. Orange juice is from machine, highly diluted with water, scrambled eggs swimming in water, and generally everything overcooked. Croissants were good and fresh. Lunch was good, but you had to pay for it. Dinner was the same quality as the breakfast. We ate it because we paid for it. Food was tasteless and blend. It was definately not 3star quality. If you like your food and expect quality then I would choose another hotel. Also the only adult managing the place seemed to be the manager, who was helpful and always smiling. The rest were 18-23 year olds, which again did not feel me with great confidence. Don`t get me wrong, they were smiling and helpful, but again did not feel the 3 star quality from the service and attitude. Just to give an example, the mustard was a year out of date and we had to tell the staff twice to change it! Come on guys, Stock rotation!
The spa is small but service was great!
All in all, we had a lovely week, found a brilliant restaurant, called Castra Nostra, which I would highly recommend.
I would not return to the Aalborg and probably would not use Neilson again. I like great quality of service and food, which I feel we did not get here.

Room Tip: not ground floor

“Excellent for skiing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Great hotel if your skiing. Ski in and out but not on the outskirts of town. Plenty of bars in easy reach. Staff are friendly and the food suprisingly good. Rooms are basic but clean and tidy. If you want luxury accomadation then this is not for you, but for warm, comfortable ski accomadation in a good location then I recommend it. Seating in the bar area could do with a bit of a comfort upgrade. Beer at the bar from 5 euros a pint about the same as elsewhere, wine a little expensive.

Room Tip: Avoid a room over the bar if you like to sleep before closing time
