“lovely location, friendly, traditional and very romantic”

This hotel was super. We haven't got tons of cash so for a lower budget it was quite luxurious. Great little leisure club, near local 25m pool, opposite slopes, short walk into village. Helpful staff, clean rooms, the rooms at the front looked amazing with a superb view but we opted for the cheaper rooms at the back and it was lovely. Small but not the end of the world. Expensive restaurant and bar, on the whole great trip.

Excellent location in the village, walking distance from all shops, but in a quiet area overlooking the resort (amazing view).
Excellent food a la carte with a very good staff.
Cosy rooms and nice swimming pool .
Very charming hotel like a big chalet, to be recommended for summer vacations.
The resort must also be a very nice place for skiing in winter!

“Great Hotel, Service & Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2010

The Carlina and Beaulieu in La Clusaz, France, is a nice place. We stayed there for 5 nights this summer. It was booked through a cycling tour group. The room was small, but that's okay. We were out riding most of the day. The dinner was very good. The service was great too at the restaurant and desk. Everyone was helpful. The place was quiet at night. The room had no a/c, so it got warm in the evening. We opened the window to get air and that was fine. Bathroom - clean, shower - small (as is usual in France and England), balcony - great, spacious, wonderful view. Pool - nice. Easy to find - follow the brown wood signs. Easy to park a small van. Close to restaurants and shops - all within walking distance. Get used to hills if you are from a flat place like us (Miami). I would recommend this place.

“Overall very pleasant stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2010

We recently spent 4 nights in the Hotel Carlina while we were skiing in La Clusaz. It is located just a few minute's walk from a larger street which has a good selection of restaurants and shops etc. It has a particularly comfortable library style bar/lounge with an excellent selection of books. It also has a pool table, chess set etc if that is your thing. The main ski lifts are about a 5 min walk from the Hotel. It is a bit of a walk back up the hill from the lifts in the evening but the good news is that you can store your equipment in a rental shop just beside the lifts (for free). Rooms were comfortable, plenty of fresh linen, towels etc, Breakfast was fine. The only negative comment I would make is that there is a charge for the use of the Sauna & Steam rooms etc which I thought was a bit cheeky as the hotel is not particularly cheap. Overall very pleasant stay.

“Comfortable and Friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2008

We stayed at the Carlina for two nights during our summer driving tour round the alps. Obviously things like the proximity to the slopes and lifts wasn't really relevant to us, but I imagine it must be a reasonable walk to get down to the bottom lift during the winter.

The hotel itself is very pleasant and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The swimming pool and fitness centre/spa facilities were very welcome after our long drive up the mountain. Again, in Winter it must be great to do and unwind down there, with a panoramic view of the slopes.

We opted for a South facing room, which cost a bit more but was well worth it as we got a balcony with views of the slopes and town. I think the North facing rooms just get a window looking over the back of the hotel.

The room was quite compact, but still comfortable and had alpine charm with wood panneling througout. You get a TV with a couple of english speaking channels, but no mini bar or anthing like that. We were hoping for a double bed, but as is the way with most alpine hotels, we got two singles pushed together. Not very romantic but it was only for two nights. We did at least get double sheets and blankets.

The bar downstairs has a pool tabe which helped pass the time one evening and there is also an in-house restaurant which we only attended for the Breakfast each morning (which was perfectly adequate).

The centre of La Clusaz is easily accessible - it's uphill to get home though of course! There are plently of activities in La Clusaz during the summer and we found it to be a really nice buzzing village. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • Liked — The pool and fitness suite
  • Disliked — Location might not be perfect in the winter
