“Wonderful Vacation Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2009

Our family of four chose this hotel for 3 nights of our vacation in France based on the reviews and it was wonderful! We booked a small cabin (separate structure outside the main hotel). The decor of this little cabin was even more charming than the pictures on the website. The bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable and large and my kids loved the bedroom tucked up under the eaves. Everything was very clean and truly non-smoking. The view out the windows were gorgeous.
We purchased the half board with our room (breakfast and dinner every day) and this turned out be be a highlight of our entire vacation. The dining room is naturally romantic - fire burning in a large, rustic fireplace, peaked roof overhead, with large old beams in view, lots of windows looking out towards the view and charmingly set tables. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed and the food was amazing! My family's favorite appetizer was a delicious seafood pot au feu on the menu one evening - filled with plump scallops ina flavorful vegetable broth. My favorite in-between course mouthful was a fascinating little creme brulee made with beaufort cheese. It was simultaneously sweet and savory, creamy and crunchy. Wow!
I don't want to miss mentioning the wonderful staff. They were always friendly and very helpful and charming. David, who manned the bar/lounge area in the evening and spoke excellent English was very helpful with driving directions, places to visit and ski information.
We loved this place!

“Half way to Heaven at Chalets de la Serraz”

Our stay at the Chalets de la Serraz in La Clusaz was the highlight of a month long trip to France. We splurged on a "chambre de grand confort" for 5 nights and couldn't have been happier with that decision. Our "room"--a suite in fact with two bedrooms and a large bath--looked out onto an Alpine scene that not even Heidi could have topped. Our balcony looked out over a grand view of the Alps complete with majestic peaks, lush, dense forests, and a local herd of cows whose bells tinkled from across the meadows. The sounds of a rushing brook rose and fell depending on recent rainfall amounts. It lulled us to sleep each night and was there to greet us in the morning.

We weren't thrilled with having to take half board but that turned out to be a wonderful thing to have done. The food was consistently outstanding--very high in quality of food and variety, creatively prepared and winningly served. Breakfasts were hearty with many options--cereals, freshly baked fruit breads they called "cakes," yogurt, cheese, ham, bread, a fresh fruit salad each morning, wonderful fresh milk, etc. We skipped the juice which required nearly a 5 Euro surcharge but didn't miss it a bit with the fresh fruit options. Dinners had multiple courses and an incredible cheese selection at each meal with locally made Reblochon, Abonndance, Tomme, and Beaufort always available. My wife nearly cried on several occasions over the beauty of these cheeses.

Our room was large and exceptionally comfortable with a huge bed, crisp linens, thick pillows and extra covers for cool nights.

We found the location to be ideal for day trips to Megeve, Chamonix, Annecy, and as far away as Yvoire. The drive down the mountain to start each day was a wonderfully calming experience.

We found the staff to be both professional (a little on the formal side but appropriately so) but exceptionally kind and to a person very willing to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The chef made occasional forays into the dining room to see how we enjoyed the meals, the wine steward also recommended the day trip to Yvoire, and the young woman at the desk was always helpful with directions.

This was our fifth visit to France and our second visit to the Haute Savoie area (we had stayed in Annecy on an earlier trip). In a vacation marked with multiple highlights, no place we visited could compare to the Chalets de la Serraz. My 95 year old mother in law who traveled with us suggested that we return here on "our next visit" to France.

“Charming!”

We spent three nights at Les Chalets de La Serraz and loved every minute of it- the hotel is beautifully decorated in the French country style with lots of lovely old pine beams, woodwork and gorgeous fabrics. The room we had looked out on a spectacular view of the Alps and a pasture with cows grazing- a truly idyllic scene that prompted several hikes in the surrounding areas- the food was FABULOUS at dinner- chef Christophe was friendly,
charming and fun and the cuisine was fresh and imaginative- I can recommend this hotel as one of the best we've stayed at EVER- nice pool area, friendly staff, the lovely Maria chatted with us in English, the town of La Clusaz was a half hour walk and Annecy is a short bus ride away- don't miss this gem of a hotel!
