no kettle or cups in the 3star rooms other wise ok place have been 3 times before all been ok

Just returned from a new year break with my husband and brother.
Booked the resport as it was supposedly 4 star (a rarety for apartments in france) and it actually showed as a one bedroomed apartment with separate sleeping area.....(another rartety in france)...... mmm not sure I'd call two single beds crammed together agaist 2 walls, 6 inches on one side and 12 inches on the other a bedroom.... the apartment was serviceable for a week, although you can't swing a cat..... Definatly didn't deserve a 4 star rating!..... It was in a good central location in the eveining for restaurants, pool etc.... but as others say a very long walk to lifts/pistes and very noisey with drunk revellers every night walking by....... when we opened the door for the first time we discovered the previous inhabitants were very very heavy smokers :-(...... We asked the reception to move us, they said there were no available apartments but they would send the cleaners in the next day..... nothing happended,.... the language barrier became a real issue and we were just ignored....... so eventually gave up, left all the windows and doors open all day and night and brought airfreshners and candles.... but the place was so stained and curtains invested it was a very unpleasant stay all week....clothes and bed linen wreaked of smoke after 24 hours... but suffered and kept the windows open.......won't rush back.....

We spent several days in Alpes d'Huez as several family members were undertaking the tough annual triathalon. The room/suite is extremely well designed and thoughtout with cupboards and hooks in all the right places. The kitchen facilities were good, the bathrooms OK and the beds hard! Notionally the suite sleep 7 adults, but that is definitely a squeeeze, but four was very comfortable. The hotel has no other facilities and front desk service is limited to a few hours a day. As the property is very well located, restaurants, provisions and general access to everything is on the door step.
Good value both winter (ski in/out) and summer, but nothing fancy. We had no problem with noise and had a great panorama across the Alpes valley.
Security an issue!

We had a week at these self catering residences, not to be confused with the up market hotel next door of the same name! The appartment was very small, but so are our kids (6&4) so it wasn't a problem. The room could have been cleaner, dust on top of the skirting boards. There is no oven, just a microwave grill and hob, so no adventureous meals! You can buy a cooked chicken and 4 portions of chips at the shop across the road for 15.5 euros, this seems a lot buy by Alpe D'Huez stamdards it is quite reasonable!
The ski bus passes the door and has one at the slopes in a few minutes. The swimming pool is a few minutes walk up the road, be warned gents, only the "speedo" style tight fitting truns will do, i was refused entry with my more modest shorts!
Can be a bit noisy with passing traffic in the early hours and pedestrians at night.
The internet is not free and the tv seemed to have no english speaking channels so it was as much use to me as a chocolate tea pot.
The recepion staff were very pleasent and helpful.
The french ski school ESF was excellent for our kids, afternoon lessons are very cheap if you are having morning lessons aswell, £50 for 6 days!
The best value cafe we found for lunch was Mac Reynard at the DMC. Trick is to get there before the end of morning ski school as it fills with ski instructors. The food is superb and the quantities positively american! first day we bought the kids a kids meal each, after that it was one meal between them and an extra icecream. I understand that you can down load a "snowball pass" and get free internet at this cafe, though i didnt find it till my return home!
All in great holiday and will probably return next year unless some volcano blows and melts all the snow!!
