“Mystified by bad ratings... loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Le Pic Blanc for a cycling holiday in July. We loved it. The rooms were super modern and comfortable. Unbelievable, cloud top views. The staff warm, friendly but still professional. And the food was delicious. We did not have one bad meal. It seemed better than its three-star rating. We will stay there again if we ever return to Alpe d'Huez. It was not at all noisy though fully-booked when we were there.

Room Tip: As for a room overlooking the valley, not the town.

“"Alp d'Hell in Le Pic Sty"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

Where do I start? What a terrible experience! After discovering bed bugs in our room and developing a rash from the bites, we were not impressed. We reported the bugs to housekeeping who did not know what they were, they then hoovered and sprayed the room with bug spray in a pathetic attempt to get rid of the bugs... Alas, the bed bugs returned in full force the next day! We reported the incident to the manager who then accused us of bringing the bugs with in us in our hard shell Samsonite cases... unheard of! We changed hotels and paid for our new hotel and we were never reimbursed for the bug-infested hotel. On top of it all we had replace ALL our clothes and luggage for the next 4 days of our stay as all our clothes were quarantined in the hotel. I had to spend the balance of our holiday at the doctor and buying clothes.... a very far way to go, months of planning and excitement, just to be ruined by a very unprofessional management and staff.
If you do decide to check in into this hotel and something goes wrong... don’t listen to them when they promise you the world... we got home to a snotty letter written by a junior member of staff and signed by the GM of the group... instead of addressing our issues and concerns we were accused of trying to extort the Hotel and threatened us with a civil case. But seeing as we are not trying to get money back from Le Pic Blanc, this review is enough reward for us to know that anyone who reads this won’t have to face the same traumas as we did. Alp D’Heuz is not a bad destination, a GREAT hotel to stay at is the CHAMOIS D’OR – clean, fantastic service and a much better location.

“Nice Hotel, But Too Noisy!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2011

We stayed at this hotel for seven nights as part of a ski holiday. Our room was on the first floor up, right above the restaurant/lounge. Every single night, people would stand below our balcony and smoke/talk very loudly. We asked them repeatedly to be quiet, but inevitably they returned later and made more noise. We called down to the front desk several times, and at first were told that they would take care of it. On the second night, we called down again and were told that the people had noplace else to smoke, and there was nothing they could so. However, the other side of the hotel had a smoking area near the parking lot. About midweek, we spoke to the manager during the day and were told that something would be done, but it happened again. That night we learned that most of the people going out to smoke were not hotel guests, but hotel staff. We told this to the front desk, but nothing changed. Every night was absolutely miserable trying to get to sleep, and I would not stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: If you stay here, request a room on a high floor.

“Easy connection to ski and fun.”

This hotel is situated on the right side of Alp d'Huez (when looking at the pistes). It is directly on the big parking lot, at the side of the shopping gallery and several ski lifts. The hotel garage was fully booked, but the parking lot was well taken care of by snowplow trucks. It took us less then 5 minutes walk to get to the piste square with lifts. The hotel has got a large ski room, but it is not heated, so your ski boots will stay wet after a day of skiing. Ski lockers are okay. The swimming pool is small, but enough for a quick swim, with small jacuzzi and sauna. Okay to go with kids (depth from 1m to 1.50m).
Room was taken care of everyday, clean up and fresh towels. For our child the couch was folded out to create a single bed, well for a kid, not for an adult. Pillows were small and we used 2 per person. Size of room was very good, with 2 extra chairs, desk and TV. The free Wifi only works in the lobby. Toilet was separated from bathroom, which was large enough and with a bath incl. hot shower.
The restaurant we used both for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast offered plenty of choice, to everyone's liking. Dinner was fixed menu (1 soup, 2 choices of starters and 2 choices of main course - fish or meat, and dessert offered choice of local or ice cream) and for kids a special main course. The food tasted average. The service was a bit slow, because it seemed the French staff avoided us and so we were depending on one English lady of staff, together with many other non-French guests. Dinner for groups was served in another room as for families.
We were happy we could use the shower at the swimming pool after check out, in the afternoon after our last day of skiing and before driving home.

“Worst Food Ever”

Le Pic Blanc is nicely situated near the ski slopes and from outward appearances seemed to tick the right boxes. The service was very attentive and friendly both at the front desk and especially at the bar. The rooms were clean but basic, with none of the toiletry type stuff you would expect at a hotel. The bed was old, very low, and extremely uncomfortable, exacerbated by the small, pancake-flat pillows.

The meals (if they can be called that) were some of the most atrocious slop ever presented to me on a plate. Breakfast (included in the room rate) was derived from the lowest quality ingredients known to man, such that basics such as scrambled eggs bore no resemblance to the dish they were supposed to be, and the coffee smelt like bad breath and tasted like watery vegemite. Dinner was even worse - the highlight of the meal was a mushroom soup which tasted like packet soup but with less flavour. From there the meal went downhill with steak as tough as boots and a rum sponge cake that tasted like detergent.
