I have just come back from Alpe D'huez and having used this site for myself I felt I should write a review of this resort and accomodation.
Ski Conditions were excellent and the slopes and ski runs were in perfect condition. They are well groomed and although it didnt snow the runs had plenty of powder snow. The only problem was that the week 23rd Feb to 1st Mar is a French holiday and the resort and slopes were full of children in ski schools. The slopes were quite crowded but if you avoid these dates in the future then there should be no problems.
Apartment: Tiny to say the least and not clean. The beds were terribly uncomfortable and the pillows equally as bad. If you stay here then bring your own sheets and pillow case. There were three of us staying so we rented the bigger appartment and this was barely adequate for our needs. The tiny bedroom is supposed to house up to three persons but there was barely room for my wife and I ( bunk beds and pull out bed). The couch also has a pull out bed and the one in our appt was broken. The bedroom had no door and the desk staff didnt seem to care when I complined of this. That was when they were there of course as there is no overnignt staff or security staff. For several nights a crowd of noisy idiots kept the whole appt block awake through out the night with noise and trouble. Security would have sorted this out but sadly there was none. Also the night we arrived there were not enough sheets and no staff to get any from. I might sound like a moaning git but believe me this place is not worth the money at all. Granted the location is great, the views are wonderful, but there is a lot to be said for a nights sleep on a decent clean bed after a hard day skiing.
Prices of food is ok in the supermarket but beware of the restaurants as some of them will rip you right off . Avoid Free Ride pub and sports bar. Great places to eat were Smithys and a little Italian place accross from the Pacific bar .The price of a pint is usually 6 euro. Also on a different note be advised that the swimming pools do not allow you in if you are wearing shorts and will only allow you into the pool wearing speedos. They will rent them to you for a few euro but who would rent underwear( rent VD ).
Now I have this off my chest I would reccommend this resort to anyone who loves skiing but find different accomodation if you really want to enjoy your stay..
