“Greatest location, very simple accommodation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

L'Alpe d'Huez is a great skiing area and a very nice skiing village with a lot of things to do.
Very good and long slopes and nice restaurants.
Our accommodation was really simple and the hotel was really old but you only went to sleep there in the evening. A lot of noisy young skiers also.
All in all a very good skiing station with a very nice atmosphere where we intend to come back next year for skiing and a very simple aparthotel.

“Disgusting place”

Old buildiong, crappy furnitures and mattresses.there was old chewing gums stuck in the living room, the cleaning wasnt made when we arrived. I was coughing all night until my friend vaccuumed cause I was sleeping with billions of mites. There is a total absence of service. We were given disposable sheets and had to pay for the towels.
only good thing is the location, near the slopes lifts.

“There to serve the staff, not the other way around”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2010

Where to start? This place is seriously down-at-heel and needs a complete renovation. When we arrived there was no WIFI in the residence, but since they have installed WIFI in the "games room" only. This is a classic French fudge of just shelling out for one router, which will not have sufficient bandwidth to cope with the demands placed upon it.

The accommodation itself is crampt, and the furniture very dated. The kitchenettes are tiny: impossibly small when catering for 7 as we where!

The staff are less than helpful; reception is only open twice a day and I go the distinct impression we (the customers) where seen as a hinderence by the staff who, despite excellent English, where always abrupt to the point of rudeness.

As with many places of this type in the Alps, the most bizarre part is when you actually leave - they expect you to thoroughly clean the place (I'm sure we actually left the hob cleaner than when we arrived), and they then inspect it before you get your deposit back! Again as with many places of this type in France they are keener on telling you what to do, or not do, than helping you!

On the plus side, the kitchen was equipped with a decent washing machine which was a god-send as the sink was pitifully small!

“Great location,, Terrible accomodation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2008

I have just come back from Alpe D'huez and having used this site for myself I felt I should write a review of this resort and accomodation.
Ski Conditions were excellent and the slopes and ski runs were in perfect condition. They are well groomed and although it didnt snow the runs had plenty of powder snow. The only problem was that the week 23rd Feb to 1st Mar is a French holiday and the resort and slopes were full of children in ski schools. The slopes were quite crowded but if you avoid these dates in the future then there should be no problems.
Apartment: Tiny to say the least and not clean. The beds were terribly uncomfortable and the pillows equally as bad. If you stay here then bring your own sheets and pillow case. There were three of us staying so we rented the bigger appartment and this was barely adequate for our needs. The tiny bedroom is supposed to house up to three persons but there was barely room for my wife and I ( bunk beds and pull out bed). The couch also has a pull out bed and the one in our appt was broken. The bedroom had no door and the desk staff didnt seem to care when I complined of this. That was when they were there of course as there is no overnignt staff or security staff. For several nights a crowd of noisy idiots kept the whole appt block awake through out the night with noise and trouble. Security would have sorted this out but sadly there was none. Also the night we arrived there were not enough sheets and no staff to get any from. I might sound like a moaning git but believe me this place is not worth the money at all. Granted the location is great, the views are wonderful, but there is a lot to be said for a nights sleep on a decent clean bed after a hard day skiing.
Prices of food is ok in the supermarket but beware of the restaurants as some of them will rip you right off . Avoid Free Ride pub and sports bar. Great places to eat were Smithys and a little Italian place accross from the Pacific bar .The price of a pint is usually 6 euro. Also on a different note be advised that the swimming pools do not allow you in if you are wearing shorts and will only allow you into the pool wearing speedos. They will rent them to you for a few euro but who would rent underwear( rent VD ).
Now I have this off my chest I would reccommend this resort to anyone who loves skiing but find different accomodation if you really want to enjoy your stay..

“Amazing location,stunning views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2007

We booked this accommodation through Crystal Ski and I have to say we were nicely surprised. The apartments are in the Quartier des Bergers which is about a 15 minute walk to the main town of ALpe D'Huex but it is right beside the slopes, the hire shops and the ski school. Location wise it is absolutely first class! And you can virtually ski back to your door. We really couldnt complain about the location.

We were in a type D apartment. It was meant to be for 2-5 people but it was smaller than we expected. We couldnt see how you would fit a 5th person. We asked our rep and he even said that it was smaller than usual. But it didnt bother us so we didnt pursue it. We had a double bedroom, and then a sofa and pull out bed in the living room. Absolutely no complaints on the cleanliness though you do need to bring your own cleaning stuff for before you leave. Apartment had all you needed - dishwasher, cutlery, electric hob, microwave and you could rent a tv from reception I think. The view from our balcony was stunning and different every morning with the light. We were looking out onto the snow capped mountains and not the resort.

On the ground floor there are lockers, operated by your door key, where you can leave your ski gear. We were able to fit 3 sets of skis and boots in no problem.

Our major issue was with the reception. It is not open all day. Far from it. It is open for a number of hours each day and even then there were hardly ever there. Thankfully we never had any problems but if you did then it might be difficult to get in contact with them.

I would have no problem staying here again if I was going to Alpe D'Huex which I would do. The skiing is brilliant for people of all levels. We were a mixed group of abilities and we all loved it.

The only reason I wouldnt give the place 5 stars was because it was a little small and lack of attendance at reception.

The ski school meeting place is about a 5 minute walk from the door -you cant get any better! The ski hire shop we used (Henri Sport) was almost on the slopes!!!

There is also a supermarket 3mins walk from the apartments.

Eating wise - there is a great place for lunch called Chez Luigis just off the slopes with excellent food at great prices just at the entrance to the shopping centre/shops.

Apologies for the long review but I felt it was helpful to put in all this information!
