“Nothing bad to report”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2010

I was a little concerned after I had booked a room in Citea at Divonne les Bains, because of the bad reviews here. However, after I arrived I realised that there was nothing to be worried about.

I arrived around 2330 and was greeted by a friendly & very helpful guy on the reception. Check in was swift and I was in my room within 10 mins of arrival.

I booked a double studio, and although basic, its very functional. The room was warm (temp outside was -5C, so was glad to warm up). The double bed is comfortable, and there was no external noise.

The kitchen area, though small, has all the facilities you need for a short stay. 2 ring electriv hob, microwave and fridge. No kettle though. Pans, crockery and cutlery are clean. There is also a small bottle of washing up liquid with clean sponge and tea towel.

Bathroom is a good size, and plenty of hot water.

What more can you say!

One word of caution (not directed at the hotel as it seems to happening quite often in europe)....when paying with a non Euro credit card (in my case a British one), the default payment option on the credit card machine wants to take payment in your native currency. Avoid taking that option as it has a 3.5% loading on it, together with a poor rate of exchange.

“Avoid!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2009

The rooms are OK and clean - that's the good news. However, the location is terrible - even the taxi driver couldn't find it despite asking three locals. My room had no hot water, until I fixed it (the reception staff could/would not help) and my colleague had an uncomfortable fold out bed. Worst was the attitude of the 'manager' when I was checking out. We had paid in advance for the rooms but needed to pay for breakfast (actually good value). He complained that I hadn't paid for this in advance (not possible via Expedia) and took an age and a lot of protests to produce two simple receipts. He had no answer when I complained about the hot water issue. Note to owners: replace staff then you have a good proposition.

“Not our piece of cake”

We have booked at the Citéa Hotel in Divonne for a prolonged stay as my wife had to undergo medical treatment in Switzerland.

After the first night we have checked out. Thankfully the hotel management accepted the cancellation of the reservation. The Citéa is an apartment hotel and furnished with the simple and essential. We booked a suite or two room apartment. A queen size bed fitted hardly in the bedroom and it was crammed. Thankfully none of us is suffering from claustrophobia.

Rightfully to mention the internet is working and is free of charge. The kitchen is spartanly equipped. The sofa in the living room can be converted into a bed. Coming from the Middle East region we are not longer used to Youth Hostel standards. To stay away from home should be a pleasure and not a regrettable experience. To go for the cheapest is sometimes too expensive.

There are better hotel apartments in Divonne, namely Home Business that has recently opened and the Villa du Lac. The Home Business Apartment is rated for star and approx. € 10.— more expensive. A studio goes for approx. € 70.—and suite for € 85.--. Home business has a small but well equipped fitness centre but no swimming pool. The Villa du Lac is approx. € 30.— more expensive with swimming pool and is the most luxurious of them.

Divonne is a great location about 25 kms from Geneva. It has still the small village atmosphere, has a famous casino, spa and offers good country walking with its lake and the nearby Jura mountains. The market on Sunday morning where farmers are bringing their products is very nice.

We stayed for one month in the Home Business Residence and were very happy with the cleanliness, service and the appartment itself.

  • Liked — It is quite and only minutes away from the Casina and Spa
  • Disliked — The size, the cheap furniture, the overall standard

“Highly recommend it.”

I stayed in citea divonne for a period of about a month in summer 2006. It was a great place, I would highly recommend it. The staff is extremely friendly, personable and made things feel very welcome. My french has greatly improved from chatting with all of them. There's wireless which is a big plus in the area, proximity to the center of divonne is also a big plus. Overall, thumbs up...
