We found this charming hotel to be just what we wanted. It was small, smart, quiet and not pretentious like many hotels in the south of france.
The service was excellent apart from the breakfast staff who seem to not quite get the idea that customers need looking after and its not a cafeteria ! but the breakfast area is good with a terrance over looking the med which is what you want. you and the Med.
The biggest mistake is not using its wonderful location to offer evening dining under the stars overlooking the med. Its pure madness from the owner and all the staff agree. We booked the restaurant the first night and was thoroughly looking forward to dinner on one of the terraces but alas we were shown a huge cavern of a restaurant with windows over looking the med. it just was not the same thing so we swerved the place and didnt eat there again during our weeks stay. It seems the owner isnt prepared to invest in the restaurant, people dont use it because of the dull facility inside and therefore he isnt getting business in !
anyway, the location is excellent just outside le lavandou by about 5-10 minutes by car. we swam to the next door beach for lunch most days as it was so easy and fun and with lots more choice. Cedric works the pool side area and is charming and does a great job with not a lot of thanks as being one of the main customer facing members of staff. The pool area isnt huge but then again neither is the hotel so for us that was great. Its not that friendly for kids but there is a small pool on the sun bathing terrace but there isnt any area to mess around and play.
The door staff that park your car are very kind, helpful and charming and again need praise for being so attentive.
the rooms are fine, eclectic would be one word, we had a nice terrance to sit on at night, bathroom was fine but only a hand shower in a huge bath and no screen or anywhere to hang the shower head !
the area is great for many things, st tropez is along the coast and takes about 45 mins, le lavandou is close by and well worth going to for evening drinks and supper. Its not flash or expensive and more like st maxime further around the coast. The best place is Bormes les mimosas which is delightful in every way. its a small village outside le lavandou and full of small cobbled streets, shops and restaurants. its a great find and so is a wonderful restaurant run by a husband and wife team called Les fleurs de Thynn. it was the best food we had all week and we sat in the street drinking and eating and it was fantastic in every way.
we went to marseille and drove to le lavandou, its about 2 hours drive from Marseille and not the easiest place to escape from. Marseille needs work in many ways and new roads and sign posts would help. the best place to fly to is Toulon and that is very close to Le Lavandou.
Overall, its a nice place. tired in places ( why were they painting the sea side front of the hotel in July?) no for kids, small and pleasant, smart not luxurious and i would go back in a few years time.
