Had real trouble finding anywhere to stay in Cassis. This hotel had emailed to say they had a room available at 145E but when I called to confirm, it was no longer available and they only had one at 165E (excl breakfast). As I was running out of options, I took it.
There's nothing really wrong with it as such, but the room, though reasonably spacious, was bland and plasticky and furnished and decorated no better than one in a cheaper chain hotel (Travelodge or similar). The "carpet" was made of some synthetic material, the toilet for some reason was separate from the bathroom and crammed into what was effectively a cupboard, the balcony was large but equipped solely with two cheap plastic chairs and table, with no real view to speak of other than the car park. The bed had a plastic mattress protector, something I really do not think is acceptable in any hotel, let alone a 3 star. There was some noise evident from reception directly below (we had room 104 which was not far from the stairs) and from other guests walking past in the night.
On the positive side, the shower was very good and all the staff friendly and helpful. My overall rating mostly reflects the value for money more than anything else - if you stay here I feel sure you won't have a bad experience, just a relatively expensive one - and it may just be that that is the way of things in Cassis.
The town itself I'm sure was once beautiful and still has a certain charm, but is very touristy and I'd recommend going earlier in the year when quieter. As someone else has noted, the restaurants on the waterfront are mostly a rip-off and to be avoided. We had a very nice meal at L'Escalier one street behind the front.
