“would come back in the summer”

Hotel was very clean and the staff were very friendly, room was very nice but the pool could of done with a clean.
We stayed at the hotel 25th Sept to 2nd Oct 2010,we wasnt told the outside bar was closed, they said it only opens in the summer and there was no bar in the hotel.
It was a 5 minute down hill to the town, but this time of year the bars closed about 9.30 ish.thats why i would have to come back in the summer.
It was very expensive there.

“Comfortable, Modern Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2010

We concluded our three week trip through France at the Hotel Royal
Cottage in Cassis. It was the perfect ending to the perfect trip. The hotel is located a short ten minute walk into the heart of Cassis. The hotel offers a small but attractive lobby, a large breakfast room, an elevator and a beautifully landscaped outdoor lounge area with a swimming pool, jacuzzi and snack bar. However, neither the pool nor the jacuzzi are heated. The rooms are a good size with a comfortable king size bed, flat screen T.V,,
in-room safe, minibar, a large private patio with a table and chairs and a private bathroom with a bathtub and hand held shower which attached to the wall. However, there is no shower curtain (which is common in France) so it's impossible to shower without flooding the bathroom. The rooms in the back are dark and the only rooms with a view of the ocean are on the very top floor facing the parking lot. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was tasty and reasonable and can be served in your room or in the breakfast room.

“Ok, but bland and overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2009

Had real trouble finding anywhere to stay in Cassis. This hotel had emailed to say they had a room available at 145E but when I called to confirm, it was no longer available and they only had one at 165E (excl breakfast). As I was running out of options, I took it.

There's nothing really wrong with it as such, but the room, though reasonably spacious, was bland and plasticky and furnished and decorated no better than one in a cheaper chain hotel (Travelodge or similar). The "carpet" was made of some synthetic material, the toilet for some reason was separate from the bathroom and crammed into what was effectively a cupboard, the balcony was large but equipped solely with two cheap plastic chairs and table, with no real view to speak of other than the car park. The bed had a plastic mattress protector, something I really do not think is acceptable in any hotel, let alone a 3 star. There was some noise evident from reception directly below (we had room 104 which was not far from the stairs) and from other guests walking past in the night.

On the positive side, the shower was very good and all the staff friendly and helpful. My overall rating mostly reflects the value for money more than anything else - if you stay here I feel sure you won't have a bad experience, just a relatively expensive one - and it may just be that that is the way of things in Cassis.

The town itself I'm sure was once beautiful and still has a certain charm, but is very touristy and I'd recommend going earlier in the year when quieter. As someone else has noted, the restaurants on the waterfront are mostly a rip-off and to be avoided. We had a very nice meal at L'Escalier one street behind the front.

“Treated very poorly”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2008

Stayed there for two nights in early September 2008. I booked in May by contacting the hotel directly by email and advised that my wife and I would be travelling with our four month old son. We asked for a suitable double room with balcony and requested a cot bed also.
The room we were provided with (No. 106) was an absolute disgrace - it was dark - no view from the balcony, no ventilation and tiny. So small we had to move some furniture into the bathroom and 'balcony' just to allow for the cot bed and buggy.

When we saw the room we asked to be moved but were advised that there hotel was full. The staff themselves acknowledged that the room was too small but gave no explanation as to why they had booked us into it in the first place. I can only assume it is because the hotel is not child or family friendly.

At checkout we were also charged for the use of the cot bed - 13 euro -crazy - which they forgot to inform us at the time of booking.

The hotel is a bit of a walk out of the town of Cassis but managable. Cassis itself is beautiful and well worth a visit - I would just look to another hotel - especially if you have children.

“we'd come again”

This is a very pleasant hotel in a good location. We had a standard room (looking out over the pool area at the back) which was perfectly adequate. Breakfast each morning on our small terrace was excellent. Big plus point is the short (but steep) walk down into the centre of Cassis.

Planning to go back next year.
