“Could be so good, but so bad now.”

We have stayed here for years, always been really good, very French and in the Place d'Armes, couldn't ask for more, as they have a garage, so needed if you have a car full of booze to bring back.
But no more, the last time they were doing (VERY) much needed building work, new owners had said it was needed (yrue).
Never told us, no doscount, utterly terrible, we felt intimidated just parking and in the hotel it was worse.

“Dirty and very dated.”

Myself and a few work colleagues had the unfortunate experience of staying at this hotel twice over the last two weeks. Yes it may be close and convenient for the ferry crossing but I wouldn't stay here again. The bedspreads were dirty, the bathrooms (I stayed in two different rooms) were very dated and had mould on the walls and inbetween the tiles! The carpets in the hallways were dirt and ripped and if you are anywhere near the lift it will keep you awake all night if you are a light sleeper.

“Dirty hotel, mouldy walls, dirty bed cover, badly in need of refurbishment, halls dirty with ripped carpet”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

Hi, this hotel was very dated, and although had been painted, they had just painted over the old dirt and mould which was now showing through. They forgot to do the stair well and this was very dirty with ripped wall paper and carpet. Our room had mould on the wall in the seperate toilet and bathroom. The toilet had no window or extraction so any smells drifted into the bedroom. The drain pipe from the sink was off so the water flooded the floor, this was repaired with string. The tiles in the bathroom were dirty and chipped and falling off. The bath seal was off in a number of places and full of mould. There was a chemical burn in the bath, not sure how, but it looked terrible. There was a shower but with no wall mount you had to hold it while washing. The bedroom carpet was dirty and the curtain in the room kept falling off. The room was listed as sleeping 5 but one bed was a matress in a wooden frame on the floor, not very satisfactory with a family of older children. I was very dissatsfied and complained but the staff did not speak any english so it was on deaf ears. This hotel was terrible.

“Good value - and far better than other reviews suggested”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

We travel extensively & had previously used the Holiday Inn (North) at Calais. This time it was fully booked so we opted for the cheaper (50 Euros instead of 178 Euros per room per night) Belazur whicjh is just a few yards away. However just before departure (when it was too late to cancel) we spotted some very negative reviews. We need not have worried. Whilst some refurbishment is still underway at the Balazur (the hotel are totally upfront about this), our balcony twin/triple room facing the main square in North Calais was spotlessly clean, the large beds very comfortable & the newly fitted bathroom was excellent. The new double-glazing ensured the room was quiet & warm. Everything was fully functional, reception were charming & very professional & the 7-50 Euro buffet (cold) breakfast was fine - and served in a clean & well-organised (if still a little dowdy) dining room. All the staff we encountered were excellent. All-in-all this was a really good experience.....and we happily stayed a second night. We'd use the hotel again, too. Good as the Holiday Inn is, we now doubt whether it can be worth paying 350% more to stay there!

Room Tip: Ask for a newly-refurbished rm with balcony
