We travel extensively & had previously used the Holiday Inn (North) at Calais. This time it was fully booked so we opted for the cheaper (50 Euros instead of 178 Euros per room per night) Belazur whicjh is just a few yards away. However just before departure (when it was too late to cancel) we spotted some very negative reviews. We need not have worried. Whilst some refurbishment is still underway at the Balazur (the hotel are totally upfront about this), our balcony twin/triple room facing the main square in North Calais was spotlessly clean, the large beds very comfortable & the newly fitted bathroom was excellent. The new double-glazing ensured the room was quiet & warm. Everything was fully functional, reception were charming & very professional & the 7-50 Euro buffet (cold) breakfast was fine - and served in a clean & well-organised (if still a little dowdy) dining room. All the staff we encountered were excellent. All-in-all this was a really good experience.....and we happily stayed a second night. We'd use the hotel again, too. Good as the Holiday Inn is, we now doubt whether it can be worth paying 350% more to stay there!
