“Good transit hotel”

Stopped here for one night after coming across on the Eurotunnel. Location is handy for the tunnel, being just one junction further down the motorway.

Reception staff were friendly on arrival. Our room was a simple no-frills room, but it was clean and had everything we needed. It's not the Ritz, but then again we weren't paying Ritz prices!

Food was basic and (by French restaurant standards) nothing to shout about, but as with the rooms was OK for the price.

Cheaper and more friendly than similar chain hotels, and would recommend it for anyone needing a quick stopover before or after a tunnel crossing.

“Budget Hotel great value - ideal for Calais stop over”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

Stayed one night after a quick shopping trip to Calais, on arrival we were checked in by a friendly receptionist, who spoke excellent English, we did not have to provide crediti card details or passport information, just given a key and directed to our room. The room was quite basic reminiscent of a Campanile (Not surprising in France) but very clean, as was the bathroom. There was a decent LCD flat screen TV which had plenty of French channels, and also English channels, BBC1, BBC2, ITV, CH4 reception a little fuzzy but perfectly watchable.
There is Tea and coffee making facilities in each room, but cups are very small plastic affairs (best take your own for a proper cuppa.
We had evening meal and Breakfast - Details below

Evening meal 15Euro for Buffet Starter, Freshly cooked main course, and Buffet desserts.
I had Steak with roquefort sauce, food was excellent quality and good value.
Breakfast was about 8 Euro (I think) and was exactly what you would expect in France - breakfast was OK - but too pricey in my opinion

All in all I would highly recommend the Cottage hotel for overnight stays in Calais

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back - busy road at the front - take your own cups / mugs for drinks

“Why?”

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the last few years. It is good value, it is clean and has friendly staff, it is convenient for the autoroutes and ferry port and the food is good without being exceptional.
Why then do they spoil it by closing the bar between 6 and 7pm, so that you cannot enjoy an apperitif if you choose to dine at 7?

“Convenient”

We stayed at this hotel for one night after getting a late ferry from Dover ("late" being the word -- we didn't get in to Calais until 4am, several hours later than anticipated). We were, however, able to find the hotel fairly easily in the dark (it did help that the roads were empty) and we were relieved to find that reception in manned 24 hours a day.

Check-in took all of about 10 seconds, which was a relief. The room itself was nothing to write home about; rather small and cramped, but adequate for a stop-over. Check-out was at 10.30am, although we were awake long before then due to the poor soundproofing and rather loud chatter from the room service staff.

I can only rate this hotel on the basis of how it served us, which was as a place to get a few hours rest before continuing a long drive. In that sense, it did the job, although I probably wouldn't choose to stay here for more than one night. One thing that did stand out about this hotel was the friendly and helpful reception staff, which I think is always worth a mention because a warm welcome or friendly goodbye can make a big difference. I would give them five stars in that respect.
