“Good family holidays overall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

We went there for two weeks in august as a family of 2 adults and 2 children ( 17 and 12 ) .
Overall we spent a good family holidays there although we found several bad points .

Five good things and five bad about the site :

Good
1. Keycamp couriers were very friendy and the accomodation were clean quite as the site .
2. Supermarket was a 5mn walk away from our accomodation
3. The Vendee region is superb with plenty of things to do around the site
4. Beautiful pool complex well equipped and very clean
5. Ample and shaded pitches

Bad
1. Lack of space and loungers around the pool . They should improve the covered area for all-season swimming .
2. Football pitch rubbish according to my children . They even put basket on the sandy pitch ! A multisport court would be much better
3. Bar area limited and a big lack of entertainement .
4. busy road to cross to reach the main part of the site when your accomodation is located on the annexe ( at Les Amiaux , another St jean de monts site , there is a tunnel under the road to avoid the children to cross the road constantly )
5. Toilet blocks dated ( clean however )

“If ur a family in a tent then dont come here!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

As a family of 5 (3 Children under 10) we visit france every year and camp, We stayed at Le Clarys Plage for the last 2 weeks of the school summer holidays in August 2011. The journey from Roscoff to Le Clarys Plage took around 4.5 hours. The directions on line arnt great so if you can get a sat nat then that will help. The directions the site give you upon booking will help but just for a little town called Orouet.

We arrived on site and checked in at reception the first impressions of the site was it was huge and rather untidy, shabby looking. We were shown to our pitch and were dissapointed to see it had no grass on it, it was a dust bowl. The pitch was flat but was just sand and mud, not great for comfort or cleanliness, Theres a tap and wash area thats shared with next doors pitch which is good, but annoyingly the electric hook-up is shared between 6 - 8 Pitches and required us to have a 20 metre lead! Also the lead connectors are French style 2 pin not 3 pin, which is also annoying but you can higher from reception for 30 euros deposit.

The site has over 400 pitches and was the biggest site we ever stayed on, theres not many tent pitches available roughly 10 and there all the same at this time of year.

The swimming pool is great but very small considering the size of the site, it opens at 10.30am each morning which is quite late when youve got young children, who are dying to get in the pool. The pools are warm, its lifeguarded and has 9 slides, a lazy river, 2 jacuzzi's a water play area and two small toddler pools. One indoor small pool and jacuzzi. The pool cleanliness was excellent but theres only one toilet within the pool complex. Theres a fast food bar offering good food at a reasonable price which overlooks the pool next door to the bar and entertainment area which is tiny.

Theres entertainment every night but its late, cramped and loud! your usual disco's, magician and clown shows but there always on too late. 9pm roughly.

The supermaket next door is a good 5 mins from the site but expensive, for your main essential shop theres another larger supermarket only 15 mins away in car for cheaper, better selection.

Also the beach is around 10 - 15 mins, the beach is clean, and massive, its lifeguarded and has toilets and food / snacks available

Theres not a huge amount to do outside the campsite so you will have to travel to the near by towns to find better shops, bakeries, pubs and activities.

Overall its a large site which its average rating, there is better and im sure theres definately worse.

Room Tip: If you stay here, stay in a caravan not a tent

“A Great place for young children”

We are Grandparents and stayed with our Daughter and her two children (13 and 8). The Eurocamp mobile was clean and well equipped and the minor problems were well sorted out by the courier. We were close to the pool which meant the children could get there on their own easily. Sun beds were almost impossible to get unless you queued 30 minutes before opening time (which was usually late,) Must be only about 50 sun beds around the pool so it was a scramble to say the least!!.
The beach was great for swimming, surfing and exploring rock pools.
Did not do many off site trips but went to the Velopedes at Commeqiers. Highly recommended as you ride on the old railway for 10kilometers on adapted cycles. Absolutely brilliant.
The U supermarket was reasonably priced but we and others found most things expensive.
The main problem was the noise of a nearby fair the music of which went on to 1.30am most mornings.
On the whole a great site for families of children under 12. Older children may find it difficult to keep amused.

“Some redeeming qualities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

My husband & I have just come back from spending 10 nights at Le Clarys Plage. We went with Eurocamp & had a superior 2 bed mobile home. I have to say it was the smallest mobile home I have ever stayed in & there wasn't anything 'superior' about it. A definite drawback having 1 loo in the same room as the shower. However, the home was fine for our needs & we had everything we needed. THe pitch sizes are average I would say.
The pool area was good & the main pool was heated. The children enjoyed using the slides & the lazy river.
The entertainment was lacking if that element of a holiday is important to you. But the site does attempt to put on something (usually a disco or karaoke) every evening. The free wifi in the bar (whilst pretty flakey) was great to have. It would have been even better if it could have been extended to reach the mobile homes.
Our children very much enjoyed the video games & spent many a euro in there on a nightly basis!
The take-away was good. Chips were particularly nice :o)
Brilliant rear access from the camp to a nearby supermarket with everything you could need in there. Would recommend the local rose wines :o)
Also within walking distance to a lovely long sandy beach.
In summary, this campsite is ideal if you have had enough of driving & want to spend some time relaxing whilst still being able to access shops & a beach.

“Fantastic family holiday and great pool complex”

Went with Eurocamp-2 adults and 5 children aged 4-12.Great site.Very close to fantastic beach and huge supermarket.Pool complex brill and much better than the brochure lead us to expect.Indoor and outdoor pools.Rapids and baby and toddler pools.Site great and pitches spacious with lots of greenery.Kids loved kids club.
Bit of an effort getting a minibus taxi from Nantes airportbut finally managed it with "Mon Chauffeur".Does have a website but I think you need to use your French to get a response.
Im struggling for many negatives-only poor exchange rate and fact it rained for 3 days but really neither of those under control of campsite!I suspect that if you booked direct with campsite-www.leclarysplage.com would be cheaper.
I would thoroughly recommend this holiday for young families-and try out the minigolf place a short walk up the main road-friendly,you can have a cheap drink and electric gocarts for under 10s and pool etc for older kids.
