Unfortunately, this isn’t a hotel we could recommend. When we were choosing where to stay, we weren’t looking for luxurious accommodation, but were expecting something basic but comfortable – similar to what you might expect from a Travelodge or Premier Inn – suitable for a short stay whilst visiting the Lille Christmas market. Instead, we found the hotel to be run-down, dated, not very welcoming, and not particularly clean.
Our room was on the ground floor, and there was quite a bit of noise from people walking past at night. We also weren’t too sure how good the lock was on the door to the room. The room didn’t smell very fresh. The floor had no carpet, and wasn’t very clean. The bathroom was a tiny cubicle, with a very dated sink, toilet and shower, and again didn’t feel particularly clean. It was also quite cold – the heating wasn’t working very well, not great considering the icy temperature outside.
On the plus side, the car park had electric gates that could be opened with a code if arriving at night. There were also a couple of fast food restaurants and a supermarket next to the hotel, handy if you don’t want to drive somewhere else.
The hotel is located in a suburb of Lille, next to a busy roundabout and dual carriageway, and isn’t very suitable for visiting the city centre. The walk from the hotel to the nearest Metro (Villenueve d’Ascq Hotel de Ville), is about 20-25 minutes, but involves either walking through a very quiet industrial site which didn’t feel very safe at night, or along the grass verge beside a dual carriageway, which also wasn’t very safe.
We enjoyed the city of Lille itself, which was a beautiful and fascinating place with an excellent Christmas market. We would definitely visit the city again, but would choose one of the nicer looking hotels closer to the city centre.
