“It does what it says on the tin!”

I stayed here as part of a group of walkers and having read some of the comments was rather apprehensive - especially as the hotel's own website doesn't do it justice, either! Bearing in mind that this a 2 star hotel, I found my room to be good size, warm and clean with a lovely view over the marina and town. The breakfast was more than adequate, even in preparation for a days' walking! The group ate in the restaurant one night - a set meal, admittedly - but it was lovely. The fish was beautiful and the service excellent. In fact. the staff were all lovely.
As a budget hotel, this certainly delivers and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

“What do people expect!”

I guess if you are an obese person the showers would be cramped. If you spend your time in five star very expensive hotels I suppose you would think this hotel not up to your usual standard. Maybe some people just like to find fault! Get real this is a budget hotel not The Ritz.
My room was warm and comfortable. The shower was hot and powerful. The restaurant was so good we used it on two nights. Great local fish! The staff were very friendly especially when they gave me a refund as I had paid twice for my room! So convenient for the town and the castle and cathedral. In all a great experience.

Room Tip: Always chose a twin double! Bigger room. Better view. If you want silence choose a standard double...

“Apalling - avoid this hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

I stayed here on a frequent basis from November 2009 to March 2010 as it was my employers prefered hotel. It is convenient for the town and the staff are fairly friendly. The rooms however are small and very tired. Some of the bathrooms are impossible to use - the shower cubicles are so small. The bathroom doors are plastic and offer no privacy if you're sharing a twin room with a mate.
The food was awful, in particular the basic menu which I was forced to eat. The basement floods and there were frequent drips of water into the restaurant from plumbing leaks above. They also put out the breakfast buffet the night before so the cheese and ham are curly by the morning.
I would advise going somewhere else unless this is your last resort. The only worse hotel I've ever encountered is the Gens de Mer in Dunkerque.

“Only stayed as a last resort”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

On the afternoon of the 23/08/2011 we were in a car accident, on our way driving down to Paris.
Our insurance company had booked us in here, as it was the only hotel available on such short notice.
When we arrived at the hotel, we saw scafolding, and building supplies all over the floor of the reception.
The receptionist on duty wasn't very helpfull, I had broken my arm and couldn't carry much, the lift was broken and we had a 3rd floor room.
We asked if any of the rooms on the ground floor or first floor was available, and she didn't even check, just waved us off.
After we had finished lugging our bags up the stairs, and got into our room, we found that there was a large crack through the window, so you could hear all of the outside noise, even with the window closed.
There were no working plug sockets in the room, and we were awoken at around 7am by the sound of hammering and drills.
We went down to breakfast, to find there was no hot food available, only stale pastries, cheese and ham.

Long story short, we will never be staying here again! The only good thing about it was the beautiful scenery of the marina just a few minutes away!

“Much improved and well worth a visit, happily recommendable.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2011

We arrived early evening for a 4-day stay and were greeted by polite, friendly and helpful staff, who are this hotel's greatest asset. Our room was clean and pleasant, with a double and a single bed. Wardrobe space was more than adequate, and we were glad to see that the old-style plastic folding door to the bathroom had been replaced with a wooden sliding door. Breakfast was from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and, with an uncrowded dining room, was pleasant and more than adequate. There was no undue noise at night so sleep was good.

A bonus of this hotel is the free car parking in the hotel's own car park, a saving of around €10 per day compared to other hotels in Boulogne, and this time we took advantage of the hotel's free Wi-Fi. It is classed as a public network but on request we were given a username and a password to access the network and experienced no problems.

This hotel may have had its problems in the past but is now definitely getting its act together and, in my view, is excellent value for a hotel in this price range.
