“OK place in centre of Arras. Very hard to find.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

I spent 2 nights at this hotel as a base for visiting Vimy Ridge and other WW1 cemeteries. The hotel is just 100 metres from the fabulous central square of Arras. I chose it for its location. Parking was a way away under the central square. Parking cost 10 euros for an overnight which is expensive.

On a dark December night it took me over 30 minutes to find the hotel in the town centre. At the end of a long day I did not want my journey increased crawling around through traffic lights and searching for the hotel.

Ibis these days don't seem to do food very much in my experience . The limited offer was expensive as was the breakfast. I rarely buy the breakfast because I think that most French hotels charge far too much for it.

The staff were pleasant and preferred to talk in French (obviously) but had enough English to deal with any question I had.
Overall I found it hard to find a reasonably priced hotel in Arras and the food outlets nearby were really expensive at over 20 euros for one course in the evening.

I don't recommend this hotel unless you can't find any others.

“Excellent Location for Xmas Market”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

Hotel was fine for overnight stay and very reasonable price. staff very helpful and friendly and even included us in their xmas nibbles and drink as we were in the bar at the time.
Parking in Grand Place easy and cheaper ticket from hotel with instructions worked well.
Arras was lovely, only disappointment was Xmas Market. .Stalls were not what I call "Xmas Gift" stalls and only one food and drink stall but had a couple of nice meals in restaurants round the squares.
Would definitely reccommend for overnight stay

“Centre Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

The Ibis is located between the 2 principle squares in Arras. If you were there in December for the Christmas markets the main square is 300 meters to the left and the Saturday market is 300 meters to the right.

It is a run of the mill Ibis hotel but the receptionist would serve alcoholic drinks after 11 o'clock at night which some Ibis hotels is not possible. They don't seem to have standard when it comes to late drinks. More people would drink in their bars if they stayed open and reduced their prices a little.

The station is about a 15 minute walk and the bus station is next to it.

There is plenty of parking but not necessarily in view of the hotel. It is a nice little town in the Le Somme battlefields area.

“Another great ibis stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

Another great stay at the ibis Arras. You couldn't get a better location and although the hotel is getting a little dated (hence the 4/5 rating for Rooms), all the facilities you'd want and expect at an ibis are there and we couldn't fault the cleanliness. All the staff we came into contact with were very friendly and on check-in, the guy behind the desk didn't change to English until we'd conversed for a while then he moved to English and said he wanted to give us chance to practice our French which was a great idea ... and we managed quite well and certainly gave me the confidence to have a stab at asking for other things (like asking to make a booking for breakfast) in French throughout our stay as I knew he was going to be patient and wouldn't make us feel stupid :)

Breakfast was quite basic but really enjoyable. Mainly consisted of cereal, bread, cold meats and cheese, yogurts, pastries, pancakes and cakes with fruit juices and a selection of coffee and tea. All self-service. Other hotel's we've stayed in have had a small amout of hot food (scrambled eggs, small sausages, etc...) which would have been nice for the cold mornings but if I'm honest, we didn't really miss them. I've rated Value 4/5 as I felt the price of breakfast was a little steep based on what was on offer but to be fair, what we did have was fresh, well presented and there was plenty of it and kept us going until the evening. Drinks were also price (I think it was 6.20E for a large Kronenburg, 3.50E for a small and around 2.60E for a cuppa, roughly).

The location couldn't be any better - right between the 2 main squares and in easy reach of the train station (if you needed it, sbout 5-10mins walk max) and an underground secure public car park under one of the squares. Parking is 10.50Euro for 24hrs - still after 2 stays we've not quite worked it out as we were told both times by the hotel that if we exited the carpark with one of their 24hr tickets at, say, 11am then it would be valid until 11am the following day - this never happened and the tickets were always invalid so best to find out more about that. When you leave the hotel each day, you just hand them the carpark ticket you took from the barrier on entry and they'll change it for a 24hr one and charge to your room.

Free wireless internet is available and also a free to use computer in the bar area.

Thinking about a 3rd trip to the area in spring 2012 and will definately be booking the ibis Arras again.
