I booked four rooms at this hotel back in March based on reviews on TripAdvisor. I specifically requested the ground floor rooms facing the courtyard, and this request was agreed with the owner once again a few days before arrival. However, when we arrived for the 5.30pm check-in, we were told that the four courtyard rooms were no longer available! Two of the rooms were in the courtyard, one was on the first floor overlooking the courtyard and one was facing the road, which we specifically did not want (we were assured that the room was not noisy, however, the couple who occupied it, not light sleepers, did not get a wink of sleep as it is on a main road which does not stop all night). At this point we should have just walked away as we had not paid a deposit, but being British we just took what we had been given. The rooms were clean and the bedding and towels new, but the size of the rooms were small and the bathrooms were a joke. It was like staying in one of the French motel chains like B&B or Formula1.
The owner was not at all welcoming and she seemed to forget that we were her paying guests. After checking in to our rooms, we sat at one of the patio tables in the courtyard to discuss plans for the evening with our friends. Although the table we had sat at was outside the two rooms we had been allocated, the owner very rudely told us to move to another table because the occupants of the neighbouring room would be returning soon and would not want us sitting near their room. We were just sitting talking quietly, not having a wild party!
When we went to leave the hotel to go into town, we were not allowed out until we had paid for our rooms in advance. Only then were we given the access code to use upon our return.
The breakfast was not good and consisted of a hot drink and stale bread/croissants. We had it purely for convenience as we off to Aix-en-Provence, but it really wasn't worth the 8€.
We had paid 10€ for secure garage parking for our classic cars, but it can't have been that secure as the cars had advertising fliers under the windscreen when we came to leave.
Our group covered over 2,000 miles in 2 weeks and stayed in a variety of hotels along the way, but this was the only one we did not enjoy. I would not recommend staying at this hotel and really, there is no reason to stay in Millau which is quite disappointing. Just visit the bridge and arrange to stay elsewhere!
