Holiday spoilt by a serious dispute over room charges and the hugely intransigent attitude of the owners. There are so many lovely places in France where this is not the case that you can easily avoid this one. Gerardmer itself is not a lovely town but the lake is very pleasant and the surrounding countryside is astounding.

There are plenty of better options in the area. We won't risk this place again.

Family run hotel - had junior suite for 4 of us, clean and simple though nice decoration. Only oddity - intervening doors have glass panels so towels were useful!
Welcome friendly and helpful, breakfast good (light continental but ample), close to lake (5 minutes walk), small swimming pool. Sorry to leave, will return!
Loved Gerardmer -big enough for facilities but small enough to be pleasant - lake good for swimming, walks, watersports

We stayed there for 4 nights in March for a short skiing holiday. It was easy to find the hotel, parking is accessible from the main road, though for a garage you have to pay extra. Close to the slopes (by car) and to the city center as well (10 min. on foot). The hotel was a very nice surprise, don't judge it by the outside nor by their website. The whole atmosphere is very welcoming, the couple running the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful, they know the area very well, so they can give you advise. The breakfast is very simple, but the bread is indeed delicious, and the service is excellent. Our room was on the top floor, attic-style, simply but nicely decorated, and the bathroom was new and spotless with separate toilet.
The only negative thing was that the isolation is not perfect, you can hear your neighbours, but it might not be the case in every room.
