“Travelsphere Hotel Swap "Beware"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

Booked with travelsphere for the Dordogne, Albi & "accompanied" tour. The brochure featured our 4 night stay would be at La Truffiere in Gignac, or similar. A couple of days before our departure we received the itinary which indicated our hotel would be the Ibis in Brive. La truffiere boasted a swimming pool, Wifi in room, Lounge bar, Restauant all in a rural setting. The Ibis had a bar to seat 9, no lounge, no restaurant, Wifi in the bar area, no pool, all in a town centre setting. Our evening meals had to be taken in a restaurant a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Due to lack of facilities we had no opportunity to gather together for meetings and socialise as a group. The tour manager had been drafted in at late notice and had no first hand knowledge of the places we were to visit. We were marched to the local tourist info centre and given a map of the locations, then left to fend for ourselves and try to find the points of interest, which had been researched on the internet the night before and repeated to us by the travel manager on the coach. Travelsphere were sorry for our dissapointment but said, they only undertake to provide a similar standard of accomodation??? The only similarity was it was in France and had the same star rating!! Will not use travelsphere (Now Page and Moy) again..... Ever....

“Acceptable Overnight Accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2010

A stop over en route to Orleans & after the disaster that was Mercure Chambery staying at one of the lower spec Brands in the Accor chain was unnerving.
We were however pleasantly surprised - despite the navigation errors which meant driving round the wrong side of the river for 1/2 an hour trying to find the hotel - plenty of free parking & a short walk from the city centre the Ibis is perfectly positioned as a stopover.
A bit on the expensive side but with the Rugby side in town probably not a surprise.
Would use again.

“Worst Ibis Hotel we have ever stayed in”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2010

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and it was terrible. Although breakfast is available from 6.30-10.00am, every morning by 7.45am there was an acute shortage of everything. There were no plates so guests were eating from serviettes on trays, there was no cutlery, no cups and hardly any food! The staff were very unco-operative and did not replenish items until asked, and even then they brought out the minimum of everything so breakfast was a real hassle every day. The stair landings were filthy and there were dead insects which looked as though they had been there for some time and remained there throughout the duration of our stay. The rooms are tiny, not properly cleaned and are really only suitable for 1 night as there is hardly any storage space so there was no point in trying to unpack.

“Caution Ibis Brive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2008

I stayed in this hotel on a recent trip to France the Ibis hotel booklet states that it has a Private car park on arrival we found that it only had a Public car park across the road. As we had two cars we were very cautious about where we parked them.

The next morning when i went out to my car i found that my windscreen had been smashed by someone. It had to be replaced at a cost of €605. I complained to the hotel reception and they told me where i could get it fixed.

Since returning home i have complained to Ibis they state that they do have a private carpark contrary to there own staff and Website. So far they won't even acknowledge the fact that one of there publications is incorrect.

The hotel itself is nice. Clean rooms small bathrooms compared to there newer hotels. Bar was comfortable.

I also noticed that nearly all of the Ibis hotels only have one power socket in each room making it difficult if your on a short stay to power Phones/Laptops etc overnight.

  • Liked — Convience to the Autoroute
  • Disliked — Carpark is not as stated in Ibis brochure. It is a PUBLIC car park with no security.

“handy for town centre”

Stayed here as I was in Brive on business but also had a few extra days visiting friends in Brive and Limoge. Rooms similar to premier inn, comfortable bed, good shower etc. Staff very polite and helpful. The hotel is situated across the river from the town but is right on the rivers edge, you can be in the middle of brive after 10 mintes walking (your walk takes you past several friendly bars and also past the fun fair on your left).
A cheap, friendly and convenient place to stay.
