We have just returned from a stay at the Mas de Couran and had arrived with some reservation due to previous reviews
Our room was on the first floor and over looked the gardens We were fortunate enough to have the only room with a balcony which was very spacious The room was decorated in typical 'French' style and was very charming The bathroom was compact with excellent facilities including hair dryer the room was cleaned each day and we were provided with fresh towels The couple running the hotel were as helpful as they could be despite us having difficulty with the language making communication a problem Our room was very hot as there is no air conditioning but a fan is provided We left the windows wide open at night which was a big mistake as we ended up with lots of bites from the midges
There is massive development in the area with the new team lines being installed We didn't have a car as we were visiting friends who were holidaying in the area so researching the alternative transport was essential It is about a 15 minute walk to the bus that will take you into Montpellier and Lattes both of which are well worth a visit Near the bus stop is a Carrefour hypermarket that will provide for every need Overall this hotel is a typical French small hotel which will benefit from the new tram line The young couple are obviously working hard tp provide good service and the location is very good for the airport

Thinking this was a nice arrangement for a couple of lazy days to enjoy both Montpellier's city life and the beaches nearby, we checked in at the Mas de Couran end-July 2011 - and out again just a couple of days later, several days short of our original reservation.

Our first disappointment was our room: The converted cellar under the outside staircase is more like a poorly disguised bomb shelter than a hotel room, both visually and odor-wise.

We then discovered that, in spite of our guidebook's appraisal of Greater Montpellier's transport system, there was practially no way to go anywhere from the crossroads in the middle of a construction site in which the hotel is located, without your own car. Wanting to enjoy restaurant life in the evening, and possibly go bicycling in the day, we found this very disappointing.

Moreover, the staff seemed totally uninterested, to say the least, in helping us find our ways around the area, possibly thinking their pool should suffice for a day out in the sun. Well, it doesn't. And we certainly don't want to spend our time in a hotel where the staff makes you feel uncomfortable.

For people who happen to have business in the suburb of Lattes, this might be a reasonable choice. For a nice holiday - go somewhere else.

This is not a hotell, it is a gîtes; a kind of family run hostel situated in the middle of an industrial development zone far from both Montpellier and the beaches.

The rooms are dated and smell bad. Our friends got a smelly room under the staircase leading up to the terrace. The reception didn't understand why they wanted to change to a better room. The family who runs this place are very unfriendly and rude, in particulary the husband.

We had an extremely unpleasent stay, and though we had booked for five days, we left after two.

Stayed over before flying out from Montpellier - would have liked to stay more than one night. Old farmhouse/chateau/mansion, a bit worn in places but very charming. Breakfast at the terrasse was nice, would have loved to dine in the garden or at the terrasse in the evening as well but both places occupied by private parties. Restaurant definately ok for quality but a bit overpriced. Very idyllic garden and nice large pool, very much enjoyed by our children. Welcoming for families. Actually stayed in the basement which was convenient because it had direct access to the garden. Room very good for a family of four with a 140 x 200 bed and two separate beds for the children although booked as a room for three people. Free WiFi allover. Would stay again.
