“Very disappointed!”

Very small outdated room with no outlook. First impression on arrival was not feeling terribly welcome. Fousty smell in corridor and in our bedroom. Outdated very well worn sheets and blankets on bed with very grubby, damp eiderdown over the top!
Breakfast was good although the wall where we were sat had very grubby light switches which made you wonder how clean the kitchen was!!
Wouldn't stay here again!

Room Tip: Don't take the basic room - it's awful!

“A magical week-end...”

....so said the bride and groom after their wedding in the Castle and reception in the Castlemead. It's position is superb and the panoramic windowed marquee on the lawn made the most of the views of the Church, gardens and the sea beyond. Lorna Greasley and her family actually made it for us. From the beginning the service, support, help, advice and sheer kindness were exceptional. All the guests remarked on the quality of the food and how it was served - the atmosphere created by the staff at the Castlemead is just about unique. Four guests were stranded at the end of the evening until one of the staff, overhearing, said 'no problem, it's on my way and I'll give you a lift'!
This was our second visit and we'll be back. The beds are very comfortable and leave the window open and the larks can wake you. OK a bit of maintenance is probably needed but it hardly affected the quality of our stay - and they do have public wi-fi. The rooms with a sea view especially good. And my daughter and her new husband so happy with the start their marriage has had.

“Lovely location ... OK B&B”

First off, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, plus the location was lovely - right in the centre of Manorbier and a couple of hundred metres from the beach and castle. As others have already mentioned however, the accomodation itself was rather tired. Very clean but a bit tatty around the ages tbh - they are clearly going for a look of faded grandeur but this does mean that you still have to do a bit of maintenance and decorating from time to time! ;)
We didn't have an evening meal but cooked breakfast was good. Other reviewers have complained about the price - we paid £80 for two people which seemed a little steep until I discovered that a twin room in the local YHA, plus breakfast would have cost about £60+ so I don't feel too hard done by!

“Excellent food, amazing view and friendly service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2011

We ate in the restaurant on Saturday 7th May. The menu is small but everything on it is well thought out. Being vegetarian i had a choice of 2 starters and 2 mains - which is really unusual as normally its only 1 of each. I had Fresh fruit to start and then pumpkin ravioli which was absolutely delicious. My friends had the pate, asparagus soup and tempura prawns for starters (all lovely), Steak and monkfish for mains. The portions were huge and the food was really beautifully cooked. The restaurant has gorgeous views down to the beach and the 14th century church. The hotel is quite old fashioned, but in a good way. It has a quirky bar with lots of pictures of the local village and castle. our waitress was lovely, really friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed. We all had a brilliant time.

“Excellent location. Good service. It was cold.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2010

I visited here recently with work.

It is easy to find once through Tenby.

We arrived late, around 9.30pm. The hotelier had been working in Tenby during the day. The heating had gone off at some stage during the day. It was turned on minutes before we arrived. West Wales is very cold in the winter.

My room was very nice. Large, clean and well organised. Similarly the bathroom was a good size. On the downside, the shower was not fixed, or even fixable, to the wall. Further there was no shower curtain so the floor got a little wet !

I do not feel the cold much. However, I found the room temperature to be bitterly cold. A colleague spent all night wearing all her clothes apparently.

Breakfast was very good. The view from the dining room was lovely. There is a nice garden that leads down towards the water. Throughout the visit the hotelier was helpful and friendly. There is little call for hotels in the mid winter in West Wales. I am confident that the hotel is very good when warm.

Would I recommend this place ? Yes, but take your thermals in winter.
