“heaven on earth- charming!”

During our last trip to Spain we stopped by at Les Mas Trilles on our way back to the UK. We had the pleasure of staying at this charming place for 3 nights. From the moment of our arrival till our departure everything was made to make our stay as enjoyable as can be. We had booked a superior room with a fair size terrace. the room had enough space to add a spare bed for our 7 year old boy. The decor in the room was elegant but not too fancy or too classic which gave you the nice feeling of being in a house (or "Mas" as the owners explained is the name given to the old farm house in the Languedoc Roussillon/Catalan region).the garden was gorgeous with tall trees and spring flowers everywhere we very much enjoyed relaxing by the warm pool . If you stay at this hotel, we definitely recommend the walks by the river passing on the hotel property or also lovely walks in the mountain close to the hotel... and of course the Picasso museum in Ceret. Our host Mr and Mme Bukk spent a lot of time explaining how to make the most of our short stay at Le Mas Trilles and maximise our time visiting the region. The hotel is perfectly located not too far from the Spanish border, which was a very convenient stop over .We spent a few hours by the sea,not having to stay in the tourist crowd of the beach and happy to enjoy a relaxing time in the countryside. The only downside is that there is no restaurant in the hotel. However, the simple next door restaurant was perfect with a child .we also found a good choice of places to eat in Ceret ,5mn drive .-Mr and Mme Bukk were always very helpful in recommending nice places to go and most important, our dog said that never found a place like it to run and run !!!

“Charming, but overpriced”

We enjoyed our stay at Le Mas Trilles, It is a beautiful old house etc and previous descriptions all very accurate, but sadly we did find a few things we did not expect, which did spoil our stay a little.

It is much further away from Ceret than we hoped, and we always had to drive to visit the Town, as it was too far and there wasn't a pavement to allow you to walk, as the road was very busy. There is very little nearby in the local village. We tried a local hotel with restaurant, which was very bad. and we tried the La Frigoulette restaurant which is fine for a pizza/pasta basic meal. but all the good restaurants are in Ceret.

When we arrived we were rather surprised to be charged 4.80 euros for a bottle of water and 4.50 for a diet coke, which we requested after a long drive. After reading all the reviews about a wonderful breakfast, we were also surprised just to receive the normal french breakfast of croissants, french bread and jams, along with a dish of grapes.
We hoped there would be yogurt and wider range of fruit, but there was a notice saying yogurts were available at 2.80 euros, eggs etc all at extra cost.

We chose one of the mid range rooms paying 142 euros per night, and a little upset to hear the road when our french doors were open.

The House is lovely along with the swimming pool, also Monsieur and Madame Bukk are charming hosts, but I do feel that little things are appreciated by guests when their rates are in the more expensive range of hotels. We have stayed in much cheaper hotels in France and been given bottled water in our rooms and a wider range of breakfast than we received at Le Mas Trilles.

“Disappointing, overpriced”

Relying on many positive comments on tripadvisor we stayed for one night. There was no relation between price and quality. Private terrace turned out to be a tiny walled-in balcony. Wish I had read the comment by SH London from Sep4 which seemed to be the most realistic. After analysing the positive reports now I realize the majority of them were by one-time contributors. A nice comment in exchange for a free meal maybe? One person has put in 27 contributions. all but one positive and most of them in the same area. Tripadvisor cannot be relied upon, you have to remain sceptical.

“A charming French country Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2009

Le Mas Trilles was probably the most unexpected find of our 12 days in France and Spain. It was a really delightful charming French Country Inn with a lot of character. M/M Bukk are wonderful hosts, who we genuinely enjoyed talking with at length about a variety of topics. We had a wonderful room, with a great bathroom. We arrived in early afternoon, and had a nice dip in the pool (in late September) to cool off after a long day on the road (we had started in Carcassonne that morning, then stopped in Narbonne and at Fort Salses). Hosts were gracious and helpful -- got us to a great restaurant for dinner, where we received excellent service and food by mentioning we were staying at Le Mas Trilles. Breakfast on the terrace outside was very nice. Altogether a lovely stay at a very relaxing and comfortable inn.

“wonderful hotel, wonderful location, and really wonderful hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2009

We fully enjoyed our stay of four nights -- just about the right amount of time for us. M/M Bukk were gracious and very helpful hosts. Our room was lovely, breakfast was very nice. Grounds, pool, and gardens were beautiful. Looking forward to returning someday soon.
