Part of the problem with this hotel is me and my expectations. We had been to Collioure about 6 years ago and loved it. When I learned that this was a new hotel close to Collioure, I pictured in my mind a charming little French town like Collioure on the water. Lots of atmosphere, quaint restaurants, etc. We were in for a huge shock when we arrived - which by the way is no easy task as it appears to be on no GPS system at this point. It is a lovely modern hotel on the beach all right - in the middle of a development of houses and condos with a camping ground across the road. There are no restaurants, shops, etc. within walking distance and the words quaint and ambience would not come to mind. The main theme is spa and there are lots of French ladies that walk through the lobby in white bathrobes. Not what we were envisioning.
The beachfront rooms do have a nice view of the water. The rooms are big and spacious and the bathroom was good size. Bed was comfortable. Elevator and some of the public spaces could have used a good cleaning.
This is a four star property. I do think the staff needs to go through a better training program. There is no one to officially help with bags. The reservation agent helped to us to get a trolley and take bags to the room. The parking is free but there is only so much available directly outside the hotel. When we asked about the underground secure parking they showed us the garage and told us it would be locked up at 10PM. We drove into the town of Canet-en-Roussilin for dinner - which was also a disappointment - it is like a gaudy version of Coney Island and arrived back at the hotel at 8:45PM. The garage was already locked. We pressed the button by the door to ask how to get in - no one spoke any English or could give us any directions. We finally gave up and parked away from the hotel in a dark, unsecure area. The second day we were there I sent out laundry - it was supposed to take 24 hours. On the third day around 4 in the afternoon I called to make sure the laundry was coming that day as we were leaving the following day. They said the truck driver for the laundry had called in sick, but it would arrive around 7PM. We again went out to dinner and returned around 9. The laundry was there so we were relieved and got ready for bed. At 10:30PM someone started pounding on our door and speaking loudly in French. I asked who it was and what did they want. They wouldn't quit pounding or talking. I called down to the front desk and told the woman there was someone at my door pounding and yelling and it was frightening me - I wasn't going to open the door. She left the phone for a minute and then came back and said it was one of there employees and he thought his "tuxedo" was in with my laundry!! I told her that I had gone through the laundry and it was not there. Meanwhile this person was still pounding on my door. Finally he quit and left. It was a scarey experience. When we checked out the next day, I said to the person at the desk that I thought this was a frightening and unnecessary experience. Why didn't someone just call me and ask if the tuxedo was in my laundry instead of letting this guy come to my room? He just shrugged his shoulders - no apology, nothing. I felt most of the staff had a very indifferent attitude.
Would I go back? No. It was like being in a version of Miami without the atmosphere. We ended up driving to St. Cyprien for most of our meals. Breakfasts were 28 Euros pp which is a waste on my husband and myself as we eat a very light breakfast. You need a car if you are going to stay here. This hotel advertises itself as a spa retreat and that is probably the best description of it.
Room Tip: Seaview rooms are the best.
