“Loved Hotel Le Cottage but....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2007

We stayed at Hotel Le Cottage in July '2007. It is an oasis of peace and tranquility within the Argele area. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a superb lunch on the premises, the best in Argeles.
The only negative, and this has more to do with the class and consideration of the guests than the hotel itself, were the topless women at the pool( not all, but a few). It might have been less offensive if they were to stay on their towels but many of these women played volleyball in the pool ( not a pretty sight!) and walked all around the premises half-naked. We were with two young boys and therefore found it rather offensive. During lunch these women were fully visible, which kind of ruined the ambience. There are an array of rules for the pool, why not a dress-code as a consideration for families? I really hate to even mention this because it is again a reflection of the guests and not the hotel, but unfortunately, in our case we did not feel comfortable at the pool and did not spend as much time there as we would have liked.
Furthermore, the rooms were comfortable and as an added bonus air-conditioned. The hotel has a nice selection of books to read. The young-lady at the front desk was very heplful in booking restaurants, giving advice on the area etc... All in all a great hotel, except for some of the guests at the pool.

  • Liked — Friendly staff and the lunch.
  • Disliked — Clothing attire at the pool or lack of.

“Lovely and peaceful, friendly and welcoming.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2007

we stayed at Le Cottage in July and were very pleased with the hotel facilities, in particular the lovely pool. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, certainly a restful hotel.
Our only quibble was the long walk to the beach, around 20-30mins walk in the heat is not so inviting. You can catch the little train to the beach area for 8 euros in the old town.
We didnt take breakfast in the hotel, but found a number of cafes 5 minutes away in the old town. One cafe, oppositie the church doors offers a very english breakfast along side the usual options.
Dont expect much life in the old town after 9pm - the beach is the place to be. We went to the restuarant Astral on a couple of occasions for a good meal - ask for a table looking out to sea.

  • Liked — the pool
  • Disliked — the long walk to the beach

“A great little hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2007

While the hotel is a bit in the outskirts (it's a fair walk to the beach, along an unattractive street), it's a heaven of peace both during the day and at night. A car is necessary IMO.
Rooms are not big, as usual in France, but clean and well appointed with good working A/C, minibar, safe deposit box, TV. Ours was a privilege superior room with separate WC and balcony (without a special view, though). The discount rate applied until June 16th, maybe that's why we had no view.
Nice pool area and garden.
Friendly and efficient staff both at check-in and in the breakfast room. Breakfast at 12€ was a little expensive IMO but there's nowhere to breakfast in the immediate surroundings.
I second the suggestion for dinner at L'Amadeüs ([--]) on the main street close to the beach, as well as L'Auberge du Cayrou in Argelès-Ville (rue du 14 Juillet).

  • Liked — Its quiet location
  • Disliked — The expensive breakfast

“lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2006

We stayed for a week at this hotel and we absolutely loved it.

The gardens, grounds and pool area are beautifully maintained and whilst I am not normally one to spend much time lying round the pool it was so peaceful and relaxing here with the pyrenees rising in the background, I spent much more time than usual round the pool. Wonderfully lit at night as well. There was also an old table tennis table available if you felt energetic and a few crazy golf holes. These were just far enough away from the pool not to bother those relaxing but probably close enough to keep an eye on kids if you wanted to.

The rooms were really peaceful and kept clean with a nice balcony to walk onto. Again very relaxing.

The hotel breakfast was fine, usual continental breakfast but you could get boiled eggs. No queuing but it was cleared away very quickly so if you leave it to the last minute make sure you get all you want before sitting down!

The village of Argeles is a 5 minute walk, the train station is a 10 minute walk and the beach is a 20 minute walk but the road is not the most interesting with little alongside for much of the walk. We hired bikes on our first day for the week and it took less than 10 minutes to cycle to/from the beach. We actually preferred the village in the evening as it had a more traditional feel but it was very quiet.

We found a lovely bistro near the rugby stadium.

  • Liked — the beautiful surroundings and the peace and quiet
  • Tips/Secrets — we found it was cheaper to book directly with the hotel
