“Expectancy of dream stay - shattered”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

Firstly may I say that this is a genuine and honest review based on our personal experience. The proprietor greeted us on arrival, as we realised on approach to the hotel that it is situated by the autoroute we asked him for a room not overlooking the motorway. He informed us there was one room left and the inferrence waws take it or leave it....we had booked the room several weeks before arrival. We looked at the room which was like a prison cell, the only window one could see out of looked on to autoroute the other window about 18" sqaure was so high up you couldn't see out to the pool/garden area even standing on tippy toes. The bathroom was huge but didn't have a shaving socket and no socket near mirror in room, in fact no mirror in room. We went back to the proprietor and said it was like a prison cell to which he took great exception, he did offer to move us the following night but as we only were staying two nights we declined and moved on the next day. The pool area did not have a shower and subsequently resulted in a black "tide-line" around the pool...not what you expect from an hotel of a supposedly high calibre, the garden was not well looked after. We understand however that the restaurant is of a high class food but was way too expensive for us. Would I return to or recommend this place - no, because of above matters and also because it the wrong side of the auotroute from beach/town of Argeles-sue-Mer.

Room Tip: Ask for pool/garden view but be sure window is NOT above eye level.

Dear Guest,
I do indeed remember your visit... It is not that often that our authentic stone walls do remind of a prison cell... :)
I am really sorry that our Auberge was not up to your expectations and that the charm of our catalan mas did not act upon you.
Best regards,
Magalie Tonjum.

“Unique Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

We stayed in Auberge du Roua for 2 nights in mid September. Overall we were very pleased!
We stayed in a superior room, which was large, very clean and with a spacious bathroom but unfortunately with no view. The room was very well lit also at night with the possibility to dim the lights, so it can be suitable for reading but also for more romantic mood...It also had a very good a/c, which was a blessing in the hot and humid mid-September days. The one fault of the room is that is has no mirror at all, only the one in the bathroom, so if you want to take a look at yourself before going to a very good dinner in the excellent restaurant, you can't...
The hotel seemed to be a renovated farm-house, and it was beautifully done, mixing the old building with modern design. It is just outside the village so you need a car if you want to go out at night, but only 2 minutes drive to the center of town.
The restaurant is the best thing!! Eating by the pool, fabulous food and great atmosphere. I celebrated my birthday there, and the dinner was truly a feast!! Expensive but the food was delicious!!

Room Tip: try to get a room with a view to the vineyards, not to main road

“delightful Hotel with a good pool and great room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

Enjoyed our stay here in a lovely room that overlooked a vineyard and mountains as a backdrop. Dinner was lovely, but dear enough. The pool area is very nice and very peaceful.

Room Tip: Remember when booking that the hotel takes a 30% deposit of all nights immediately.

“We loved it and we'll definitley be back!”

From the moment we arrived at the elegant hotel we fell in love with it straight away. I was glad we had chosen this for our 7 night stay in the Argeles sur Mer area. It was exactly what the pictures illustrated on the website and to be there for real was such a pleasant experience. It was a quiet area and very peaceful. The grounds were very neat and well maintained, the pool was just beautiful and the dining experience was without doubt the best we ever had. The food was exceptional when we dined for the barbeque and tapas night. The room we stayed in was perfect for the two of us and the bed was comfortable. The decor in the bathroom was a little dated but this didn't change my opinion of the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful upon arrival and throughout our stay. I would highly recommend this hotel to a couple looking for a romantic break or for anyone looking to take time out from the hustle and bustle of everyday life

“A Perfect stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

A group of nine of us stayed at the Auberge du Roua in July 2010 taking 5 rooms. From the beginning when I booked the accommodation, via email and on the phone, 6 months earlier Magalie could not have been more helpful. When we arrived Magalie was there to greet us and we were delighted with our choice. The auberge is set in a lovely tranquil garden with wonderful surrounding views and has been lovingly restored. The younger members of our group loved early morning runs from the auberge. The pool is attractive and pristine clean with plenty of sun loungers and parasols in the garden and on the terrace.
Our rooms were bright clean and very nicely furnished and the bathroom was sparkling and large (we ourselves had a superior room). The large bed was very comfy.
Breakfast served on the terrace overlooking the pool was excellent: everything you could want from a continental - style breakfast. There is no lunch available but we knew that before we booked, most people would have a car to pop out but we did hear a grumble about that from another guest which we didn’t feel was justified. We had booked dinner for one night for the 9 of us and everything was perfect from the drinks we had first seated round the pool to the food and wine and the service - highly recommended and a beautiful setting as the sun went down.
We chatted to Magalie and her husband on numerous occasions as we went to and fro through the open plan reception area and asked Magalie to tell us of a local, quiet beach and she directed us perfectly with a map to an ideal spot with hardly anyone there - a difference to the bustle of Argèles! Free wifi is available in the reception area a good plus.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Auberge and would certainly recommend. It was everything we wanted and expected.
