We visited Paris during the Easter weekend this April. Our plan was to arrive in Paris after spending a couple of days in Nice. Our flight was to arrive at the Orly airport in Paris, late in the night at 1030 pm, so we booked the Etap Hotel Rungis which is close to the Orly Airport (at least that is what the website made it out to be!).
We had expected the hotel to be really close to the airport - something like a 10 min walk or a 5 min bus ride. The reason we expected this was that the Etap Hotel we stayed at in Nice was right opposite the Cote d' Azur Airport in Nice - just a 5 minute walk!
When we landed in Orly at 1030 (by the time we came out, it was almost 1115 in the night - thanks to a delay caused due to a perceived threat an "unattended" piece of luggage had caused!), we were in for a shock!
There was no Etap in sight, we saw a bus with its destination as Ibis, we asked the driver, he said he goes nowhere near Etap! So here we were almost at midnight with a hotel room booked in advance but not knowing how to reach it!
We asked in the Information desk in the airport only to be told that the only option was to take a taxi as there was no bus going in the direction of our hotel!
Then we luckily asked another bus driver who pointed in the direction of a board which said "Shuttle" buses from Hotels Mercure and Ibis. We decided to try our luck and decided to wait there.
That was a good decision as about 10 minutes later, the shuttle bus did arrive - but not at the designated place near the board but some 50 metres away (another stroke of luck that we spotted it!!!.
We were not sure though if we would be welcome on the bus as we had booked at Etap and not at Ibis or Mercure. So we asked the driver and he said he is going to Rungis in the French accent! We knew we had to go there so we said we want to go there and sat in the bus. The journey to the hotel took about 20 minutes. That is when we realised that we had made a big mistake about not finding out more about the location before booking a room there!
Once we reached the hotel we had to make the payment in the automatic machine outside the hotel as there is no receptionist after 10 in the night. The machine is a nice piece of technology as it accepts your card, and hands you a receipt containing your room code which you need to enter your room.
The room itself is sufficient for 2 people with one double bed and one bunker (mainly for kids) and a functioning wash basin and bathroom.
The stay was pleasant. The receptionist was very courteous and spoke good English! The breakfast was decent with bread and jam and butter and orange and coffee/tea!
Overall I would recommend the hotel with the only problem being the distance from the airport. You cannot get any bus and have to depend completely on the shuttle to travel from and to the Airport! Of course, if you have your own car, none of this should be a problem!
