We travelled to Paris to celebrate my 4oth birthday. We were on a budget - so had to shop around for a decent hotel. Given our budget - there would always be a compromise. The hotel itself was lovely - a traditional French building with period features. The rooms were furnished with antique beds and period wallpaper. The down side being that the rooms were very small - but then it didn't matter for the amount of time spent there.
The location was a fair way from the centre of Paris. However, is was a 10 minute walk to the metro station of the Grand Arch at La Defense. (You could be lazy and catch the RER over-land train - 2 mins from the hotel - and then change to the metro). It was roughly 6 stops to the L'Arc de Triomphe and a few more down to the Louvre - all on the yellow line - so very easy to navigate.
Breakfast at the hotel was substantial. Although there was a good patisserie across the road as well as a few cafes if you wanted to get breakfast a bit cheaper.
The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and also allowed us to stow our luggage after we had checked out (11am) The only downside perhaps is that there are no tea/coffee facilities in the room (and a bit steep at 4.5 Euros downstairs).
The bathroom was very small - but well equipped (and surprisingly modern compared to the rest of the deco)
All in all - I would definately recommend the Hotel George Sand.
