I stayed at this hotel for work meetings. It was my first time staying at this hotel in la Defense. I stayed at the Renaissance in the past but it proved to be far more expensive...but you get what you pay for.
The Mercure was relatively inexpensive compare to the Renaissance. This is not a bad hotel in anyway. Well maintained, above average room size, free Wi-Fi and a free breakfast that actually had hot food. My room actually had a view of the Eiffel tower, so this was great for me. But while my stay was not bad as other reviews stated, I did have some interesting challenges checking in.
The first desk attendant would not check me in before 12:00 without paying for a full night. I was coming from the US; I arrived at 8am and could not justify paying a full nights fee for 4 hours. But the second gentleman (12:01) was very friendly, explained everything, (Free Wi-Fi, shuttles and breakfast and offered to put me in a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower)
The room was stocked with the new standard of freebies, one bottle of water, a few cookies, teas and coffee. I had my own thermostat which is not always common. Better than many EU hotels, I had two outlets in the sleeping area and one in the bathroom. While this may seem trivial, if you have as many electronics that need charging as I do, you’ll understand. Finally and most pleasantly surprisingly was the number of channels in the TV in English. I was unfortunately stuck in the room all day as it was extremely cold and the airline lost my luggage, so I was without my warmest clothing.
All in all I would gladly stay here again.
Room Tip: Ask for a room with an outide view of the EIffel Tower. Rooms 37+ abover the 5th floor
