“Etap Hotel Chalons en Champagne-very clean”

We stayed at this hotel overnight on our way to Calais for the ferry following our holiday in Switzerland. It was a good place to stay, clean and very good value. Our only complaint was the receptionist on the morning we departed (the person who booked us in was very helpful and pleasant). We hadn't pre booked our breakfast, but decided to have it there, to save us time.

We do not speak French, but my husband does try to have a go in deference to the the French people. We were just greeted with a French Basil Fawlty expression and behaviour-very rude. But, hey ho, we are not too concerned about that, he was just a rude man. The main thing is, the hotel is good, clean and excellent value for an overnight sleep, the rooms also have air conditioning which was a welcome relief as it was very hot.

One thing we would point out, we had difficulty in deciding if we were in the correct building as the sign on the hotel said B & B and not Etap, it seemed they had only recently been taken over by B & B.

“Exactly what was required”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

We stayed overnight at what is now called B&B, as opposed to Etap. This was a little confusing as the signing to the hotel is very small and as we had not printed out the directions (absolutely our fault of course) we had quite a lot of difficulty finding the hotel. However, it was just what we wanted for an overnight stay, in a nice quiet area with plenty of restaurants close by (either to walk to or a very short drive) to have an evening meal at. The only problem we had was that the lift didn't work when we needed to take all our cases downstairs to the car the next morning. We didn't feel that anybody was actively trying to get it mended.
All in all, a good stay and wonderfully good value for the price. We had prepaid for the breakfast.

“ETAP Hotel, what ETAP Hotel??? Check your Booking!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

I would have liked to review our booking for the ETAP hotel; only one problem; it is no longer an ETAP! It was SOLD by ETAP to B & B Hotels of France in June, and no-one at ETAP bothered to tell us; it was only because circumstances made us look to book a 2nd night that we found out it had changed hands, so, thanks for nothing ETAP! The hotel had no record of our original booking, and only because we re-booked 2 'new' nights whilst online were we able to secure our room. Big tip for those staying there at the week-end, there is a huge nightclub to the rear of the hotel, and the noise from late night (early morning) revellers (or drunken teenagers isd a better description) as they staggered out up to 7.00am, shouting, fighting and sounding car horns meant we had to sleep with the window shut which made it stifingly hot, so take earplugs if you need to keep the windows open. Apart from those 2 challenges, hotel was fine, breakfast was good as it is all self service help yourself as much as you want buffet style, cereal, brioche, bread yoghurts etc Would I stay there again; probably not due to the nightclub proximity (although thankfully it was closed on Sunday night), but the B & B standards were fine and good value for money

“Convenient location”

This hotel was in the area we were looking for (halfway between UK & Switzerland) and was conveniently placed for access to motorways and restaurants. Clean, if basic, rooms, but ideal for a quick stopover en route.
