I came here after Chateau Noirieux, where the experience for the money, or indeed any money, was somewhat less than sparkling. Did it colour my view? Only in so far as being able to make a direct comparison.
The Rooms
It is a pricey stay but is far superior to Noirieux where we paid similar rates. Our rooms were in the carriage house. Ours (35) was huge and very private. We had a small terrace and giant if slightly dated marble bathroom with separate bath and shower cubicle. Niggles were a lack of light in the shower and the weird wall mounted haridryer although I always take my own anyway. In the main room the cream carpet had a couple of minor reasonably inoffensive stains. The bed was big and very comfy and the room had air con and electric shutters. This room was 450 Euro per night.
My daughter's room (23) was quite small but perfectly adequate with all of the necessary facilities (air con, decent shower, etc.). A couple may find the bed a little small. It was 215 Euro per night.
The Food
Breakfast was usually on the terrace unless a little chilly (although my husbad forced me to brave it anyway one cooler morning and if the staff thought we were bonkers they didn't show it!). Lots of options (although only saw the menu on the first day so just as well we remembered it - could have asked for it and it would have been no trouble).
We'd been told when we booked that the restaurant would be closed for 2 of our 5 nights, and that was fine with us anyway as fancy Michelin starred food every night can get a little tiresome. Our dinners here were really lovely. I did witness one chap getting cross and leaving and service was sometimes a little slow but never so much as to have me finger tapping.
The location is great for many of the Chateaux - although I don't mind a bit of driving - and the hotel and grounds very pretty.
Most importantly the staff are great. Attentive (apart from one or two minor hiccups) and good fun without intruding.
