An example of a hotel that lacks ambition. Everything runs quite efficiently but it lacks any flair. Don't accept a room on the top floor if a gale is expected - the rattling roof tiles will ruin your sleep. Our room seemed very tired, and would beenfit from redecoration. The dining room is particularly drab - not quite eastern Europe in the communist era, but you get the idea. We stayed 3 nights and as far as we could make out the same inappropriate music played all the time - Shirley Bassey singing Goldfinger is not what I expect at breakfast. The food is acceptable, but no more. Breakfast lacked sufficient choice. Fortunately there is an excellent restaurant, the Transat, just round the corner. This has real style, modern decor and first-rate cuisine, plus staff who really work at its success. Quite a contrast. The Abbatiale is in an excellent prime position; it seems that the management feels this is enough. It's not.
