Grand Hotel is centrally situated in the Le Mont-Dore. Located near shopping and restaurants, it is in a good area to serve as a home base. The hotel is in a restored building from the 1800s. The rooms were very clean, however, there is no elevator so it is not well adapted for handicapped or older people. Breakfast is served in the dining area and is the typical continental style. The rooms are definitely on the small size and are very dark. The rooms could use more lights. The owners are friendly enough. Not a bad hotel for a one night layover.

We stayed for one night en route to a cycle tour in the Dordogne then the Alps. The husband and wife team who run the hotel were exceptionally helpful when we struggled in with our bikes and luggage, and were genuinely warm and attentive. The building itself has a lot of character,has a very peaceful and attractive garden, and is well located in the centre of this tranquil town which is surrounded by a nice panorama of trees and mountains. The room was comfortable and spacious, and the odd eccentricity part of its charm. There are a number of good and excellent value eating options close by.

This is a comfortable, old fashioned hotel right in the center of a small, beautiful city. After a 10 minute walk from the train station, I immediatley spotted the hotel, surrounded by a black, iron fence, and a garden that encircles the hotel. It is a restored, turn of the century mansion, with old fashion rooms that exude warmth and character. If you stay at Hiltons and Sheratons, this may not be the place for you.
The family who run the hotel couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. I stayed for 3 great days, and wouldn't hesitate to come again. For the price, it is an outstanding bargain.
