We were apprehensive about staying at Maeva Residence Bleu Marine as we had made our booking through an online agency the night before our arrival. Naturally MB’s Reception had no record of it but cheerfully accepted our word that the booking had been made and checked us in.
The complex consists of 350 apartments in four blocks, right on the surf beach of Lacanau Ocean. Our room, 24, is a two room apartment with a compact bedroom and a bathroom with a shower over the bath and a separate WC. The compensation though is a large living area, a fully-equipped kitchen with Dishwasher and an even larger balcony with table and chairs, overlooking the pool and central courtyard. Towels and linen were provided and the bed was made up. There is no airconditioning and the rooms became quite warm in the prolonged heat. There is a lift to the upper floors. Wifi is available at a fee of €2e p.h but you need to be near, or at, Reception to access it.Car parking is available adjacent to the entrance to the apartment blocks.
We arrived in early October and, despite it being still hot [ 30c+] were disappointed to find that the swimming pool was covered and the sun lounges had been removed.
It is only about a seven minute walk in to the village and a small supermarket and baker is passed on the way. The Town is packed with restaurants but, like the Resort, they were closing down at the end of the season. Roma Pizzaria was very popular but had appalling service.
A popular activity, apart from swimming or walking along the superb beach, is cycling along the kilometres of paths through the Lands Forest. It is an easy morning’s pedal up the quiet trails to Maubisson and Lac Cousseau with a return via Carcans.
At less than €50pn [ late season rate] we found Maeva Blue marine to be outstanding value and would not hesitate to return.
