In mid-May I had a few peaceful days at Sarlat in the Dordogne seeing a few of the prehistoric places (a dream since young). Had a wonderful few days based at the Hotel des Selves with a brief opportunity to see prehistoric places - got to Font du Gaume, Resgoudou and Lascaux II, Les Eyzies and the National Museum of Prehistory and enjoyed the local food (foie de gras - yum) and wines. Next time I need to go by car as there is little public transport (no buses operate here now and few trains). The Dordogne was as I had hoped and the hotel personnel were all helpful in helping me see what I wanted, organising a local taxi to Font du Gaume and a fine first introduction to polychrome prehistoric drawings and sculpted forms - to imagine doing all that by torchlight. Only a few people are allowed in to this World Heritage site at a time but we few felt privileged and had a charming gallic guide who entranced us with his English turn of phrase and gestures. Then I walked to Les Eyzies and because all was shut for French lunch, I did took mine in the bistro opposite the National Museum of Prehistory (samples of foie, magret du canard - superbe) and then 'did' the museum. My taxi man returned for me in the evening - a bit expensive but maybe I am only here once... Good breakfasts and a fine pool in the hotel and fortunately I was in town for the midweek market - not to be missed.

comfor.table spacious room clean and nice crisp white sheets.small downside- roadnoise.. really appreciated the indoor pool (think it is the only one in sarlat). selfplaying piano, cute!!breakfast was usual continental but copious. five minute easy. walking distance to old town. going back in december. can recommend if you are looking for 3 star accommodation

Sarlat is an outstanding town and we hoped this hotel would provide a convenient and comfortable base to enjoy the local activities.
From the outside it is very good looking and co-located with another four-star hotel. The receptionist was very polite and pleasant and checked us in easily.
The room was slightly disappointing. It was small and the furniture seemed flimsy and of poor quality. There were a few toileteries and an average mini-bar. There was a towel hanging on the back of the bathroom door from the previous occupant and no tea or coffee making equipment.
There is no restaurant but that isn't a problem because the hotel is located near the town centre which has lots of eating places to choose from. The town is a delight to walk round and on the one night we were here it was full of street entertainers and people out enjoying the atmosphere and food.
The complimentary WiFi worked well and the underground car park most welcome (parking looks as though it would be difficult on the street because it is so busy).
The room was comfortable but sleep was disturbed by the morning traffic.
Breakfast was minimal but what there was ok and served by a friendly lady.
If visiting Sarlat again I would probably try the hotel next door or the one in the centre of town.

Spent three nights here in April. We were in the cheaper rooms but quite adequate, not big but modern bathroom with plenty of hot water. The whole hotel looked like it had been recently renovated. Lots of power points in room. Good undercover pool. Secure Parking nearby for euros 7 per night. Lift. Had free wifi but I could not get it to work either on my iPad or iPhone and staff said they couldn't help.
